I've seen things very similar to this for a lot less money at Marshall's,  Home goods, T.J. Maxx and Tuesday Morning.

Now mind you you can't always find them there but if you keep your eyes peeled from time to time you see something similar to this .   Another great source are the local art fairs that one typically sees during the summertime .   I've seen some great offbeat train related items there as well.

Oh, I get the intent of the artist here. I went through art school, and I roll my eyes every time I hear someone look at art they don't understand and declare it not art at all, which isn't something a bystander can accurately do. Just like someone referring to music they don't like as, "noise".

That said, my point was that in a model railroad layout room, I'd expect things like lanterns, signs, old RR calendars on the walls. In other words, railroad artifact-related stuff.

But this comes from my overall view on the hobby. I like model trains to less toy-like. Many others don't see it that way, and they're certainly not wrong in that as it's all preference and in most cases, you can't be wrong in having a preference in anything (so long as it's legal).

But this piece of art? Yeah, it's art, but it sure isn't the kind that spins my spurs... I don't get the need to try to create a fantasy version of an object that is far more impressive and evocative in its original form. Just like Michelangelo's Pietà doesn't need any additions to the figures depicted, a steam locomotive doesn't call for fantasy additions as the original version is more impressive than any artist could ever come up with on their own...

i'm sure the views of the hoi polloi often offend trained artists, but my comment (put back into context) was only aimed at your original question.
