For me there are alot of hobby goals I would like to accomplish but these are at the top of my list:

1. Get to York-doesn't matter which one since never been to one

2. Get track laid on the benchwork that has already been completed(may need to aquire few more switches)

3. Visit a train shop more than once this year

4. Get an MTH 44 tonner

5. Try to find a Train Club as the one I previously belonged to moved about 40ish miles from where it was previously.

Actually a good post, have to set your priorities you know...

- April York for another "Man Venture"

- Host another Detroit 3 Railer open house

- Eliminate any holes in the layout, and add holes in the appropriate walls...

- Thin the Heard  - Massively

- Add a round house and turntable

- Complete my next mountain.

Oh boy! Where to start?

  • Paint rails
  • Ballast
  • Fill in holes between tracks in prep for scenery
  • Do foam landforms
  • Finish backdrop construction
  • Finish layout fascia conctruction
  • Finish painting fascia
  • Apply graphics and labels to fascia
  • Connect detection wires to panels
  • Move hidden yard controls to dispatch area
  • Finish connecting CMRI wires and test system
  • Create CTC control panel using JMRI
  • Host an operating session
  • Host NMRA division layout tour

That should keep me out of trouble for the next 365 days. Now that it's recorded, let's see how I do.

My goals for next year  to do with my modules and with the basement layout.

* Build module extender/ clamp-on shelf to allow use of Hi-Jack Crane in Intermodal transfer facility scene.

* Develop alternate module scenery using magnetic operating crane and 364 log loader.

Down the basement: Continue wiring improvement/organization/labeling to get rid of the spaghetti under there now.

Host a "Happy Hour" after work so colleagues can see the home layout.

Thanks for the opportunity to make a "to do" list.

Make a backdrop for upstairs.

Pull the shelf layout in a bedroom down, clear the old basement benchwork of clutter from being used as shelves, and get it set for cooler runs in the summer. I prefer fresh air and so don't really like air-conditioning till it's in the mid to high 90s, but the heat of the transformers has been a pita.

Find a trade or cheap E or F A-B. I'm tired of my SWs sitting and ready to let go.

Now that I'm almost complete with what I refer to as the "initial build" of my layout (as no layout is ever finished as we all tweak with them over time, my goals are:

  • Keep putting detail stuff on the layout, stopping only  once I achieve a density of details rivaling the Franklin & South Manchester
  • Get ballast under all the moving parts of the turnouts (something I'm going to dovery slowly)
  • Spend more time working out paperwork and more accurate methods during op sessions
  • Oh yeah, having way more op sessions than I did this year...

Build three River Leaf Models switchman shanty kits, and delve into weathering.  I am planning to build a diorama of the Ashley CNJ yard, and eventually, a model of the Huber breaker. One of the shanties will be for the diorama, and the other two will be for a flat car. I have an old photo of two being loaded onto one. The diorama will be for the Ashley Huber Breaker Preservation Society. There may also be an in the house layout in my future, as son #1 has recently left the ranch. Two down, and one to go! I also have been considering dismantling the outdoor shelf layout and construct a garden layout.

Don

  1. Repair all locomotive defects.
  2. Finish placing right of way signs.
  3. Weather all structures on the layout.
  4. Weather freight cars, and, when enough competence has been developed, weather steam engines.
  5. Wire up the remaining dark signals.
  6. Make short videos for the Switcher Saturday threads.
  7. Replace windshield wipers on all cab units and switchers with brass highly-detailed wipers.
  8. Add details to MTH AS-616 and F-M H10-44.
  9. Sell the pair of Atlas GP9's.

Transition from running everything in conventional mode using CW80 transformers to DCS and Legacy using controllers and bricks. I have 2 PS3 engines and 2 Legacy engines and I bought the TIU and remote, Lionel Command set and a couple of MTH Z1000 bricks. Even bought the DCS bible or manual or whatever it's called written by Barry on the forum. Now I just need to follow the directions and do the work.

Moving to a new house in January so goals are a little different.

1. Make a solid inventory of collection

2. Get insurance for collection .

3.  set up modular tables in basement for temporary track layout. Make sure things are actually big enough for 072 curves and some switching action.

4. Finish some locomotive customization projects.

5. Rebuild/refurbish a few pieces of tinplate rolling stock .

Excellent topic!!

1. Start a topic here on OGR Forum on planning my new layout for slightly less than 12' x 12' room.  (I have part of a rough SCARM plan and the Givens and Druthers list partly done.)

2. Get my inventory off paper and onto a spreadsheet, evaluate value, and decide on insurance.

3. Go to York once.  I to have never been.

4. Get a plan ready so I can start building the layout before next Christmas.

5. Decide if I should buy a table saw and what sort for layout build.  All I have is a modest hand Skil saw.

6. Purchase or trade for a few rolling stock items.

-- Start build thread and begin construction of our Bedford Falls Railway, a permanent winter themed 4x8x10 L-shaped 2-level display layout
-- Order track and roadbed
-- When bench work is done ad track laid, determine building placement and begin landscaping
-- Attend the World's Greatest Hobby on Tour show Feb 4-5
-- Purchase MTH RailKing Norfolk & Western 4-4-0 locomotive & 3-car passenger set
-- Purchase MTH RailKing Norfolk Southern Honoring Our Veterans diesel & boxcar
-- Purchase another MTH RailKing diesel, preferably BNSF or Santa Fe
-- Purchase additional rolling stock from Menard's, 10-15 pieces
