We bought our first scale steamer, Lionel's Legacy 2-6-6-2 Mallet #1309 in Mr. Muffin's custom run C&O. It was brand new and the price was right!

Also got a C&O caboose to go with it, a NS tee shirt, and a t-shirt from the Social Media event to benefit the Choo Choo barn foundation, which is creating programs to help get school aged kids into the hobby. And some small craft supplies.

I remember when I went over to the dark side with my first scale steamer. Welcome to the dark side..lol

My big puchase was the Lionel PRR J class 2-10-4 from Nicholas Smith.

@Greg Houser, lol! I'm more into diesels. The steamer was something Mr. Chessiechick wanted. He says this will probably be his only scale steamer, and he has more self-control than I do, so that may actually pan out. I do want a Strasburg or Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern steamer eventually so I can run an excursion train. But the Strasburg stuff is all so overpriced. I refuse to pay the premium for it.

Almost forgot, I also picked up a Natty Boh beer boxcar from one of the guys on the forum. Looking forward to running it with my Chesapeake Bay blue crab transport reefer. Beer and crabs, hon, from the land of pleasant living!

I see in a picture one of the NEW ALL NEW TOOLING PS-1 boxcars from RMT!  Let me tell you, Lionel won't sell any more PS-1 boxcars after you see the RMT!

I put them (the new RMT) next to a Lionel on the layout.  I could not detect any size difference above the frame.  The brake has a few links of real chain, and a "perforated" DECK FOR THE BRAKEMAN TO STAND ON.  i MEAN no difference!  The door has plastic wrapped around the whole car to protect it from shipping. There is a load inside the box car, and a "wooden" plank floor.  The underside has air lines, brake lines, and some thingamajigs on the underside.  The painting was flawless!  The roof walk is photo etched brass, just like Lionel's.  The car is a rivet counters delight.

This car is simply a must buy!  Walter was autographing cars with your name and his on the box at Hennings Trains.  Hennings trains took quite a few of my dollars :-)  The train box may be the best on the market.  It is light cardboard, like Lionel's engines are.

I bought one of the Denver and Rio Grande Western engines from METCA.  It has a superb paint job on the engine and really swell emblems/logos on the tender.  My other buys were more RMT stuff, Hennings paint, and a fair number of Lionel rolling stock pieces.  I'm still thinking of buying a Lionel Cab forward from Trains.

The most important thing I bought home from York were renewed friendships!  Had 2 nice dinner outing with a different gang.

Sadly, I also learned that 5 of my friends are no longer with us, and we had a good toast to them.

Hey Neil from Rochester where were you?  We shared some stories about TREX and you!  No Clyde Coil this year either, bummer!

For myself, I got 3 Forney standard gauge cars, along with a couple of standard gauge projects (to add to the pile).

My biggest haul was a bunch of O27 track, switches, and transformers that I'll use to build layouts for the neighbor kids.  Thanks to Robert Newman and Dominic Naples for the great deals - lots of track for little money - the kids will be thrilled.

This show seemed to be the “book show” for me, buying six of them. Bruce Greenberg’s 1937-1942 book was high on the priority list, and although he is no longer attending, a friend of his had them for sale. I also bought two postwar books for a great price from the publisher in the Orange hall, and three other books for $2 each in the white hall.

I also bought three atlas o steam era hoppers and two 800 series freight cars to complete a 260e set I have.

There were other things that I wanted, but having two legacy engines on preorder, I had to restrain myself lol.

Yep, the old AOL online train gang still meets for dinner at every York for a big together. The AOL group goes back at least 25 years now.
Don- nice having dinner with you. Been a few years since you joined the gang for dinner.

Those GN’s are nice cars and with S gauge trucks can be used on S gauge layouts. In the early 2000’s K-Line actually used these shells to make S gauge cars. They were packed in purple boxes, I have some of them and use them on my S gauge layout.

Unfortunately they are not S scale. They scale out to 44’ in length and 10’-9” wide. They are a perfect size match for the S gauge Big Boy made in 2008 from Lionel’s K-Line tooling. The Gilbert cars look far undersized behind that Big Boy. 40’ S scale boxcars are a little under 7-3/4” long and 1-3/4” wide, 9’. The height of the K-Line boxcars scales to about 12’, the 40’ boxcars were mostly 8’-6” to 10’.

Below is a catalog cut of the K-Line S gauge GN. They had opening doors and were as you state, nicer and better running than the Gilbert cars. The ink stampings are much better as well.

@luvindemtrains Dave, Thanks for posting. Never been to York. Not sure if I ever will. I remember in the past, some halls were off limits to picture taking. Did anyone hassle you about filming? I always thought, if you want to invite new members, why not allow photos/filming?

Tom

It's now allowable to take pictures in all halls with the subject's permission.

And regarding allowing photos as a way to attract new members - trying to apply common sense and logic to the arcane and archaic rules only leads to madness.

I strongly encourage everyone to go to York at least once.

Had an opportunity to go to the event this year. Had not been since 2018. Picked up a few things on my list and though I missed the first day, I enjoyed myself. Here's a video of my adventures.

Dave

Thanks for posting.

Great video when you were arriving - shows how crowded the parking lot was.  For folks who aren't familiar with York, the lack of people in the halls on Saturday is normal - Thursday and Friday are the busy days.

When you were showing your finds later in the video (starting around 14:00), the video is reversed - looks like it's showing a mirror image.

A pair of Marx Great Northern boxcars in two different shades of green.  These are true S scale and are as nice as the corresponding Gilbert cars.DSC_0898DSC_0899

I compared the Marx boxcar to an American Flyer boxcar.  Width is the same.  Length is the same.  Car is a scale 18" higher than an American Flyer boxcar.

I've retrucked the car with American Flyer prewar 3/16" scale, O gauge trucks.  It'll fit in nicely with my 3/16" O gage consist.

Thanks for the recognition, Len! Hope all the kids enjoy the track!

Kids Korner had an anonymous donation waiting when I arrived of 3-rail Marx track including manual turnouts! More donations throughout York week of Mighty Casey parts and track and Peg Perego sets including a sealed Thomas set!

Older son got a MTH tank car donated by Shawn Conahey as part of Eastern Division's scavenger hunt. Younger son got a diecast golf cart that he bought from TCA past president Katie Elgar!

I got 4 CMT Standard Gauge box cars that I was lucky enough to find!
