My son's girlfriend found these in her grandfathers attic. Old Lionel - I don't anything about these - any value in these?

The trains are pre-WW2 Lionel. I'm not well versed (i.e. almost none) in the ins and outs of prewar values, so I'll leave that to more knowledgable folks. (you might want to change the title of your post to something like "what do i have here? (Prewar Lionel)" to increase the odds that someone with the necessary knowledge will notice your post.

MSP,
That is a nice prewar set. Can you take a few more pictures of the steam engine? A good bottom photo of the engine would be helpful.

I think that is a 259E steam engine
Depression era Lionel litho set. The loco, I believe is a 1681E, should have a number plate on the boiler front. Looks to be in decent shape but is missing one of the pickup clips? Common passenger cars for this would be #1690 Pullman and #1691 Observation in red. Not rare but if in decent shape and running can bring $50 for the loco/tender. Ebay sold prices are a good indicator but usually I subtract 10% for a real world price. Nice boxed sets of course bring a lot more.
Thanks
Hi MSP,
In 1935, Lionel released Outfit 1062-
1681 or 1681E Red
1661T Tender
1677 Gondola
1680 Oil Car
1682 Caboose
1028 25W Transformer
Your engine is a 1681E with a reversing unit.
Nice - thanks

Before being edited there were pictures of “models of Yesteryear” Matchbox cars in the original post. ( If I remember correctly )
