I'm curious as to what model it is. Did Lionel ever make a 4-4-2 in tinplate? I would gather it's a special edition MTH engine, but is it based on a genuine Lionel design?

392E with 392T.
Original Lionels were made in the 1930's. This was between the 385E/1835E and the 400E in size. Originals were either gunmetal or black.
Good looking engines.
The 392E is my favorite Lionel Standard Gauge steamer. It has the best proportions and looks the most prototypical. I have one of the MTH repros in black, much better looking than that purple monstrosity. I used to want a 400E, but now that I have the 392E I feel no need to add a 400E; the 392E is better looking.
I would like a 392E to add to the stable at some point. Nice proportions and looks good with 500 series cars.
