What is that horrible smell???

Mine has that smell too, had it since I unpacked it.  It's working fine, and an inspection of the board reveals no cooked components.

Can't say I have but there would be no way you could get burned electrical smell unless somebody hooked it up and fried the boards. Was the box sealed? Very strange.

FWIW, I don't smell it anymore unless I stick my nose right over it and take a big sniff.  It was stronger right out of the box.

I'd test all four channels just to make sure nothing's amiss, but I suspect it's fine.  I just sniffed the other TIU, same smell and it's been around for months.

THX gunrunnerjohn, I'll bet your nose hairs are curling by now if your TIU's are as pungent as mine!!!

I'll take another sniff tomorrow morning and give it a try

If you want to banish the smell, just take a 4" muffin fan and set it on top blowing into the TIU.  A couple of days of that and most of the smell will be gone.

 You know my newer TIU rev L smelled at first and still smells strong a year later. It does scare me a little. It's always performed good? I was just cleaning up wiring and mounted all the stuff to boards the other day. That's when i thought wow, it's still there.

I guess that smell isn't all that uncommon after all...thx for the replies

Well, I'm two days in and everything I have tried is working fine so I guess I've learned my first DCS TIU lesson:  Don't panic if your new TIU smells like someone already returned it to the store/manufacturer and you got it!!
