The other day, I put an older MTH PS2 engine on the track, conventional mode. Started up, and ran fine,  but no headlight. I chalked it up to a dead bulb and planned to pull the shell and change it. Later, I changed over (same track loop) and connected the DCS. Found, and started same engine.....and the head light worked. A "cheap" F3 out of an early set is what we are talking about. I thought perhaps the last DCS run, I quit with the bulb turned off, but the handheld on-off feature was fine, so I left the bulb on and shut down to try conventional again. Same result...no headlight. I did not notice if the bulb went off when I reversed the engine. (there is no rear bulb.)

The engine was taken on and off the loop between system changes. I don't think I ever had this happen with any other engines, nor with this one that I know of. Conventional should be conventional! I did take the shell off just to see if the bulb had a filament that was bad - it tested good. Several changes to power system, produced same results....did not light in conventional mode.

Thoughts on this? Thanks, Greg
