Why do all the bicentennial series boxcars sell from around $7 to $30, but Virginia, #7610, folks want $50 to $160 for it? Guessing Lionel made an equivalent number of cars for each of the 13 colonies, did Virginia get shorted?

Yes! Virginia did not get as many orders for some reason. The price was a lot higher in the 1980's! That was my first train set...3 years old - my Nana & Grandpop were able to acquire all 15 pieces and wrapped each one up for Xmas '75.
I may be all wet, or this may be just an urban legend.
Years ago I heard in the many LHS and show discussions that the Commonwealth of Virginia bought a great number of the cars for political/governmental goodies, Thus there were nowhere near as many for the individually built sets as there should have been.
Didn't bother me as all I wanted was the engine as that was all that had a prototype (or at least close) Seaboard Coast Line U36B 1776.
