In the rear is my Lionel T-1 with Railsounds 1.  (I added the cardboard tube over the speaker.)

In the front is the T-1 I just got today.  It idles right but doesn't do more than static in forward or reverse.  It has a 9v plug that's taped over.. does it need a battery?   The chips say "OEMNOR B LIONEL TRAINS" and "RS27S012 LIONEL TRAINS."

You have a RailSounds package in there.  The battery is optional, you don't need it to run.  In the front, that may be the TMCC driver, but it doesn't look like a Lionel one from what I see.  It appears to be an ERR AC or DC commander board.  Perched on top should be a Lionel R2LC TMCC receiver board.

Does the T-1 have a can motor or an AC motor?

A 9V alkaline battery is the proper choice.  There is no recharger, so rechargables are not the pick.  The battery won't do anything for getting the thing moving.

Since it has an AC motor, I'm almost certain that is the ERR AC Commander that you have, looks just like the one I have in my hand.  The tender shell being isolated serves as an antenna for the TMCC, and yes it is TMCC.

That should run in conventional mode, so if it doesn't run with a transformer, there is something wrong, likely a tether or loose wire issue I would guess.

Hi

Was looking at the pics of your READING T-1. I like the detail that you have done.

Would like to know more on what parts you used for the detail.

I have 2 of them sitting on the layout. John helped me convert my T-1 to tmcc.

One is 2100 and is been wethered that is the one my father runs.

The second one I plan on making 2114 witch was leased to prr at times for coal.

The bell is a Precision Scale Co C&O H-8 bell, the headlight is a Selley PRR headlight,  the coupler pocket and air hoses are from Wiseman Model Co (on eBay) and I forget who made the coupler.  Everything else is scratch built from brass and styrene stock.  The boiler front was glued shut and lots of filler added to make the right contour.  I'm not finished with it, I've still got more plans.

Your tender has a Digital Dynamics TMCC and Railsounds package.  The board on the right with the R2LC08 plugged into it is a Digital Dynamics AC/DC Commander TMCC motor driver board.  The DD Railsounds motherboard is on the left with the two Railsounds boards plugged into it.  The speaker is standard DD issue.

Well I put it back together with a 9v battery, fired it up... no sound at all, faint burning smell.  Now the Railsounds  chip (OEMNOR B, the smaller one,) has a nice black spot in the middle of the label.  Fraggin' electronics.
or now I've untethered the RS board from the ACC so I don't somehow ruin that.
As for the AC Commander... miles better than the conventional e-unit.  I'm definitely upgrading my other T-1.

How did you do that to the chip?

A new board will cost $45, that will include the sound chips.  That one looks like the Northern sound set.

I don't have the Digital Dynamics AC/DC board to compare, but the one you have  looks like an ERR board.  I looked at the instructions for the two boards, and it appears that it is indeed the DD board.

I looked at the DD and ERR instructions, the two boards are about the same, even the RS connector is in the same place.  However, I'm thinking since you do have the DD RailSounds package, you probably have the DD TMCC package as well.

Here's the two outline drawings.

DD AC-DC Board

And here's the ERR AC Commander outline.  If you flip it around in your mind, you'll see it's a pretty close clone.   However, the two white connectors for couplers are absent from yours, so I guess it's the DD board.
