Looking for suggestions on passenger car tinted window material. I've found some acetate sheets but not sure if the color is what I need. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If you are looking for smoke tint, I used Gila automotive window tint in the roll. It comes in multiple shades depending on what look you are going for. I used 35% in my HO Walthers cars, I feel it makes them look a little nicer, a roll would likely be a lifetime supply.

I have found the ogr forum search "feature" to be nearly useless. Searching multiple ways for an even recent topic finds other threads usually years old. Many times I have searched for a topic prior to posting only to get the wrath of those who have more time than me to memorize the content of the forum. Trying using the search feature that enables you to restrict the period of time the search covers. This means using the "Advanced" search feature and the date range is one of the bottom boxes. Otherwise you will get something in the nature of Google search results i.e. a very large number of results. This is certainly not unique to this Forum.
First off, as mentioned, use the Advanced Search. You should change to search just the forums, and you can also do them in date order so you see the most current answers first. Search is not perfect, and it's not complete either, but it's a useful tool.

My point is that regardless of advance search or not, it does not often find what youre looking for. Several of my friends and myself have talked about how we anticipate getting the wrath of forumites who found another thread in the murky depths of these pages. I use a lot of online search functions and Ive never found one as regularly useless as the one on this forum.

A good art supply store will have a selection of sheet acetate in clear and tinted. The Grafix web site has a list of retailers who stock their products. Michaels and Hobby Lobby both carry their products. HP has a line of clear films for printing on imagine printing your own interiors on your windows. j
If you have an airbrush you can tint polyurethane to your liking and spray the inside of the dome. Most Polyurethanes use mineral spirits as a solvent which will not attack most plastics but test on an inconspicuous place first. I have not looked at model auto paints in years but they once had Candy Colors which went on in two coats a gold or silver base then a clear topcoat. I have tinted windows with just the clear topcoat which came in many colors. The more you thin the topcoat the less color the tint will have.
I remember riding on trains and buses, as a kid, in the fifties and hated green tinted windows. I once went on the Santa Fe Chief headed towards Chicago from Albuquerque just to carry my grandmothers bag for her and it had colorless tinted windows and I thought this is the way things should be. j
Jeff, I have Large rolls of ND (neutral density) gels if you want some. We used them to gel windows for filming interiors so the light would match outside. They don't change color, only the amount of light coming through. They come in different F stops depending on the light outside. Pay postage and you can have all you want. Don

Just FYI- I tried the search and didn't get a match for my search input. However, based on the first 2 replies to my question, I was able to use the automotive window tint material to do the exact job I needed. These cars look awesome with that applied. Thanks to all for your input.

I actually painted 10 K-Line Superliners into Amtrak Phase V. Custom decals, LED interior lighting, added passengers, Kadee couplers, tinted windows and more. These cars are close to being completed and will post pics when done.

I have stated several times that during my work on my layout I made many successful inquiries on OGR. This is why I am a member and subscriber to the Magazine.
Secondly in the future I will be expertly, exact in all my responses. I will never make references to past information.
In fact I will never make any recommendations or attempt to assist anyone again on this Forum. I at one time Was happy and proud to be a so called Forumite. But no longer.
Thirdly if you have any problems with the search function on this magazine I would make your recommendations to the management, not the users.

Your post as I re-read it is likely meant with good intent. For me, it was the "straw that broke" moment, as this sometimes from others is not meant with helpful intent. My apologies for jumping on this one. However, the search method here really does not always find a result in a timely way and threads are created that may duplicate other threads. Ive been the recipient of getting blasted for doing this in spite of doing searches. Again, apologies for jumping on this. Back to the tint topic.
