I am surprised this post has resurfaced inasmuch as the point of the exercise remains, that if given a choice between what continues to be largely postwar transition era Class One equipment, or more variety, the variety comes in what anyone would consider quirky packages whether one likes them or not, versus at least a minimal recognition that there remains a lot of prototypes that have never been modeled by the "big three". By the very nature of my own opinion, it is subjective..however it is what it is in terms of what is produced is what is modeled, and I think there's much more room potentially for things other than gimmicky retreads that are just a paint job or transitory fads..it was not a criticism of those who enjoy these sort of things..in fact, as the thread rolled on, it became fun to see and imagine what off the wall hybrids could be had..not that I would spend a dime on them..I think for example a good side rod Whitcomb ( as I have in G) would do better in O than a Homer Simpson boxcar..hence my remark..what was Lionel thinking?

BTW.. One good thing came of franchised novelty items inasmuch as I got the O Polar Express engine used at $50.00, which I then chopped off the cow catcher pilot from..and added a cast pilot on that gave me a decent locomotive at a bargain price. And so it goes..

Why?  You keep coming back to fertilize it.  Face it, it's a troll post and ya got me.

Pete

When you post an opinion that you know in advance that not everyone will agree with, I suppose it is trolling more by default than intention inasmuch it was not one of those direct support your hobby rallying cries, but I do honestly think they are missing an opportunity wasted on fads rather than new models of prototypes yet to see the light of day..

Errr.. I did not restart the thread Pete. Is there some issue with my returning..? Not that Ill lose sleep over someone else's opinion nor will anyone else over mine.

Another candidate instead of Minnie Mouse or whatever is a good drover caboose...or a former heavyweight turned camp car ( i just kitbashed one)..etc, etc..but as they say, talk is cheap..

electroliner, I agree. Oftentimes, probably too often, I post simply because I feel like airing my opinion. I'm not trying to argue or start an argument. Where I get caught though is when someone directly challenges my opinion and my instinct is to "fight" back. I try hard to avoid that, but I'm not always successful.

I do get a little frustrated by the negativism sometimes, but it's far worse elsewhere. IMHO, if someone has something to say, they can reopen any thread they want to. That doesn't make them a troll. AFAIK, a troll would be someone who supports Lionel and posts in an MTH forum simply to start something. I see that too often in my photo forum, Nikon is better than Canon is better than Olympus, etc. I just don't see that happening here, but I don't have time to check all forums.
