Winter gloves don't work! (I've tried)
I have a Nickel Plate Road patch, and I could get another one and put one on each glove.
What do you recommend?

Forget the patches. In my opinion you will look like a "foamer" than a worker.

Wells Lamont good quality leather work gloves. Any good hardware store should carry them. They aren't cheap, but they are one of the best.
Best to ask the people that run/ work on 765 what they use... or look at steam era photos with engineers, fireman in them....
Didn't we just have this discussion? (Or a similar one)?
You can get leather work gloves for cheap from the garden center. Won't last as long as good ones, but won't cost you, either.

Ross Rowland had something similar.

1). Doubt he made those himself.
2). When you're the engineer, you can wear whatever you want.

Two good points. Also, is the goal to look & act like someone willing to work and learn, or a foaming "Ross Rowland wannabe"?
Exactly, HW.
Brody, if you sew patches on your gauntlets, you WILL look like a foamer. Just get a pair of work gloves and get 'em dirty and "railroady" the real way.
Wear and tear on your hands/ lack of blisters at the end of the week. These light leather gloves were still usable after 9 days. The blackening is from the pine pitch. There may be regulation about the cuff on the gloves because of the hot material.
Any pair of good, leather work gloves will work. Do NOT get gloves with huge cuffs or with logos or patches printed on them. That will immediately brand you as a railfan/foamer and you will not fit in with the rest of the crew. When the 765 crew is on the road, they are out there to WORK, not play.
For generic work gloves, I usually bought THESE. $5 at Home Depot.
For my "Running Gloves" I usually bought THESE. $11 a pair at Home Depot. You won't need these for a few years.

That's pretty much exactly how it goes...
