Wait.......its worth it!
Pete
I'm on board with Pete. Work on your layout and run them conventional for now. Once you get the Legacy you won't be able to stop running your trains; it's that much fun. So use your time now doing all the layout chores; scenery, wiring and such.
Legacy is well worth the wait. I do understand its a bit off in the future and that does suck for sure.
Also keep checking here on the forum. They do pop up for sale now and then but sell very quickly. This is pretty much the only place I see them for sale at a fair price. Everywhere else they charge insane prices.
WAIT YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID.
it is werth the wait. you be glade when you get it.
you are not kidding the prices are $800 and $1500.
Well, if you're itching to get a system right now, just pick up a Cab1L/ Base1L set. They give you the basic Legacy functionality and are alot cheaper than some of those Legacy systems on Ebay.....
no I want a legacy 990 system
I too would suggest waiting for the full 990 system. It's that much better than the CAB-1L.
I have found one should I get it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL...R-BASE-/181303441094
If you do decide to go the auction route, make sure you know what software version you are bidding on......the earliest versions will need to be sent back to Lionel for the upgrade and battery charging issues
Pete
Only the 1.0 version has to go back to Lionel. If you have a 1.2 or later firmware, you can load upgrades at home. For 1.2 you'll have to have the modules for a later version, for 1.3 and above, you can use the black modules and write your updates.
If you have battery charging issues, it will indeed have to go back to Lionel.

Save yourself $100 and some potential greif!! WAIT FOR THE NEXT BATCH!
Why pay more for a used one than a brand new one that will have the latest sftware and improvements. Lionel has been "tweaking" these every time they are released since the first run.
You have know idea what run or software that ebay set contains. The earlier 990 sets had software problems and charger problems that required returning to Lionel for repair/upgrading.
Stop mulling and be patient. " Good things come, to those who wait".
A zoom in on the ad he posted shows a 1.4 manual, so it's a later version of the Legacy system.

Good catch John! I still wouldn't pay more for somebodys used one than a brand new one.
I wouldn't either.
just wait for the 990 and buy it from a LHS it should be around $320.00 outher wise why get price gauged.
most dealers are puting them on reserve as pre order we do.
The smart move is a good LHS. Key word being GOOD. My second bet would be from a known OGR forum member. Anything from fleabay is a roll of the dice. I am a DCS guy but have Legacy and can only say good things about it. Legacy is more fun running the current Lionel locomotives with the RCMC boards.
