Hey guys.

Just an observation. A number of years ago, both Lionel and MTH made very attractive (scale like) signals. I purchased a bunch of these for the old layout. Lionel offered a nice scale (3) light mast and also a scale looking dwarf. MTH had a large selection of double head lights, cantilevers, etc. All of these were scale like. They were not cheap even 15 years ago.

Fast forward to today, I am now in the process of a brand new layout. I dug out my trackside signal lights I salvaged from the old layout and decided it would be nice to have them all match. I figured it would be as simple as calling my favorite shop and placing an order.

I "only" use these lights to provide visual interest and indicate turnout position. I do not use them for block control. Unless I am wrong, neither Lionel or MTH offer these lights anymore. Lionel offers a signal bridge but the light is no where close to scale, even for me.

All of my turnouts are controlled by DZ-2500's and the lights are tied into the DZ-1008 relay.

Terry at Custom Signals is transitioning out of the business and selling off his stock. Dennis at "DZ" sells some nice stuff but no double headed ones. Both of these guy's signals I believe are made for block control operation, not just "changing the light from red to green at a turnout.

I have seen OGR members with great talent "build their own" but that is not in the cards for me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Donald

Well if he still has your type of signals, Run[ don't walk] and invest in his system while you can. The custom signals will be resurrected in the future by someone else however the items will not be sold as cheap as they are now. I did this. I just hope I have enough!

I have got all my signals for my current layout, from him. I just need to get the items to have the signals change with switch throws.

"There's always the bay but they may not be scale enough."

What?

I can think of no reason that scale signals wouldn't show up on eBay along with everything else. They may or may not be there when you want them, but "scale" doesn't keep things off eBay, certainly. That's what has cost me so much money over the years...

"We Honest", a Chinese company sells plastic LED signals wired for 12VDC that you can wire to suit your needs, plus sensors to change them. Because they're literally lights and a housing, the logic to trigger them is left solely up to you. Azatrax makes a block sensor board suitable for these signals (I believe you have to remove the resistor) that mimic block logic.

The WeHonest signals need some paint but actually aren't bad. The best part is that they're about $20 for a set of five; or $20 for a set of four "3-over-3" double head signals. At that price point, you can stock spares for when that derailment shears one of them off.

You better plug them and try them out before you buy more. I have a few of the scale signals . And after two hours of operation they were as dead as a door nail.

Hey J Daddy....

Before I make a major purchase, would you share what scale signals you purchased? I am looking at Custom Signals and hopefully they are not the ones you have.

No way I want to spend 1K only to have dark signals after a few hours.

Thanks.

Exactly why I used the word "may."
