Stephen,

A PS2 or PS3 engine is neer in neutral when under DCS control.

Regardless, if you're trying to do a Factory Reset with a DCS signal present, you can safely do it any time the engine is not moving, whether or not it's been started up under DCS. However, a Factory Reset is not a transformer reset. A transformer Reset is a Feature Reset.

A Factory Reset may only be done from DCS. To do a Factory Reset for a PS2 or PS3 engine, you must first ensure that the engine is on a powered track that's connected to a TIU channel. Then, press:

Menu/Advanced/Reset Engine/Factory Reset, select the engine and press the thumbwheel twice.

Note that a Factory Reset will also remove the engine from the DCS Remote, and that you'll have to re-add before you can once again operate it under DCS.

Why are you desiring to do a Factory Reset?

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Barry I replaced my wheel set on my SD50 for a two rail set,and afterward I had no control in DCS ,thats to say I would scroll up 1 smph and she would take of ever gaining speed, scrolling back to 0 smph would stop here! I thought a reset might help as she ran fine before I changed the wheels. The booklet that came with the loco said on page 13 to press the horn button once and the bell five times, if successful the horn sounds twice all to be done in neutral, the horn never sounded so I assumed it didn't work. I pulled the loco apart looking for loose connections,I didn't detect any,so I checked the tack reader and couldn't see anything wrong there either, I blow a little air across the reader in case of unseen dust, and put her back together again, I didn't expect a change but she now runs fine. Im still not sure what was wrong? but I would go with the tack reader myself, but Im no expert.

Stephen,

I'm happy to hear that your problem is resolved.

Regardless of what the engine's instruction book states, a transformer reset is not a Factory Reset, rather, it is a Feature Reset. It will not reset the engine's DCS ID# to its factory setting, nor will it erase the engine's Custom Name, if it has one.

It may sound self-serving, however, if you're serious about DCS, I strongly urge you to purchase a copy of The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition. It will most certainly help you to maximize your DCS experience.
