Any word when they will arrive
Replies sorted oldest to newest
The last I heard was February 2023.
Bill at Henning's told me that he expected them by the end of the year, I'm hoping he's right.

Have you heard anything about the 0-6-0's?

Nope, but I didn't ask about those, I'm not waiting on them.

Anyone hear an update on delivery? I heard a new delivery date as May 31st because of some issues with the model. Any truth to this?
Hey Brian, I read that on another thread here. I sent an email to Charles Ro yesterday asking for an updated ETA but so far, no reply. Hang in there, it will arrive sooner or later.
John, after living through the frustration of waiting for the Acela to be delivered with all of its issues, they can hold onto the Decapods until they get them right. And hopefully there won’t be any issues with them.
I’ve been wanting someone to make this locomotive for over thirty five years. I can wait a few more weeks. Just hurry up!!

Brian, the extra time gives you a little more space to collect the prodigious price it will command.
Maybe Lionel will have some additional news for us at the upcoming Springfield show.
I hope to see a prototype on display at the Big E. I'm really looking forward to this engine being delivered - whenever that may be...
Paul
If it's there, no doubt the line of people with questions at the Lionel booth will be long.

Dave Olson showed a completed production sample a couple of months ago on "Demo's with Dave".
It seems like alot of folks that ordered these, missed it.

Thanks Rick,

John, I already have the payment ready as it was expected back in October. I’m trying to hold on to it, there are so many custom trains I like/need/want taking preorders right now!

I watched this video when it was released. It’s looking like a real beauty!!!

Yep, but it's past the middle of November, and I still don't have my #90!
I just got an email from Charles Ro; they're still saying it will be here in February.
I'll believe that when I see it!
Come to think of it, John, they didn't specify which year.

BINGO!
Ah, its the good old story of "Hurry up and wait."
Ah, it will get here when it pulls into the station. What station you ask, now that is the right question. I can wait. More time to do more work on getting everything together to run it.
Hot off the press; I just received this email from Heather at Lionel customer service:
"It does appear this has been delayed and have no other updates at this time. We should have more updates after Feb. 10 but could be after this date before it gets here. We apologize for any inconvenience."
I've read on some dealer sites as late as May. I would rather see Lionel take their time on this release and get it right no matter what the timetable is.
I spoke with Dave at the Springfield show yesterday and had a chance to see #90 running on their display layout. I thought it looked and sounded very good. Dave and I discussed the delivery dates that have been circulating around here, and he said it's going to be May/June, not February. When I asked him why the delay, he said, "Because we want it to be perfect when it's delivered."
Not my video but heres another sneak peak, go to :23:

I read that to mean: "it showed up with issues, and this time we actually made them do it over."
(not to hate on Lionel, but that's just what it sounds like to me)
Rick, did that sound like the "Ghost Whistle" when the first couple of whistles were sounding on #90 there? I thought before they changed the whistle's pitch to the second one, there were a few of the ghost whistles. I think Dave and Ryan(or Dave on one of his shows) talked about having the Ghost Whistle set up in the sequences with the crew talk, but didn't think it would do it on it's own unless there was no way around it?

PSM, I didn't get that impression from Dave. This was my first interaction with him, and his answers to my questions seemed genuine. I cited the issues with the Acela as my cause for concern, and it didn't seem like he took any offense. The discussion, along with seeing #90 in action, gave me increased confidence that we will have a quality product.

Ghost whistle is activated via aux 3 key

I didn't mean to imply that Dave was being facetious. I just mean that "it's delayed 'because we want it to be perfect when it's delivered'" sounds like PR speak for "the factory messed up and we know we'll hear it if it's not right".
I'm sure Ryan and Dave DO care about it being perfect, but having grown up with a marketing/PR person for a parent, I can't help but hear/read that as a careful, planned, and practiced answer.
I agree that his answer could be taken a different way. Given the concerns that many have voiced here and on other train forums, which the people at Lionel no doubt have read, I was half expecting a bit of a defensive answer but was pleasantly surprised that that wasn't the case. It may have been a "canned" / "planned" answer, but it didn't seem that way to me. I have said all along that #90 is a huge opportunity for Lionel to get their QC house in order, deliver a quality product, and start to regain customers' confidence.
As I said, based on the conversation, and based on seeing 90 in action on Sunday, I'm optimistic.
I saw pictures of the just released Strasburg “Paradise” observation car where they put the toilet at the wrong end of the car! You can see it just inside the rear platform.
After seeing that, I’m going to church tomorrow and light five candles. Four for the #90 and one for the Eagles.
Brian, please light a few more on my behalf.
I was optimistic after speaking with Dave, but not so much after seeing these cars. Who knows.......maybe we'll all end up with 2-10-0 Cab Forwards.
TIK TOK!!
Charles Ro says April 10th now.
I have been waiting anxiously too and I was talking to a store owner who is extremely reliable, and he said the 90's actually came in and had a problem with the smoke units, so they were all sent back. Did anyone else hear that? If true that means they would be making 2 trips around the world, ha-ha. Luckily on my pre-order they will let me examine it before I purchase it. Makes me nervous when they have to be taken apart and put back together.
