Hello Guys, I am trying to restore a Pre War Lionel #636W set. I heard that Charlie Wood retired and sold the paint business he used to run.Normally,I would have just called him and got the paint.I see it still shows up at #1 on a google search .So is Train Enamel still in business or what?? Charlie's paint used to match up pretty good, even though it has that distinct smell(AHHHH!!!!),and takes forever to dry, it looked good and would take a knock or two, without scratching(I RUN MY STUFF).

I don't have an airbrush ,so I need some rattle cans to work with.

So,has anyone found somekind of paint available at the stores or on Amazon that matches U.P. Yellow and U.P. Brown??? I am not a collector, or historians it does not have to be a dead match, just close.

I have also thought abut maybe painting it Texas Special Red and Satin Black, and then striping it out with a yellow pinstripes my attempts to find the U.P. Brown so far have lead my mind to thinking of an alternative paint scheme. I  mean, several guys have a#636W in Yellow and Brown ,but no one has a red and black one!!!

Please, stop me from ruining this set and help me find the correct paint for it!!!!-

Thanks in Advance,Kenny Baughman

I've seen some repaints that matched really well, and some that the paint was way off.  That has scared me somewhat but I also have a 636 and a Flyer City of Denver that I need to repaint.  They have been apart in a box for years lol.  I'll be curious to see what others weigh in with.

Dennis, would you be interested in selling those coaches from that set?-Kenny

Have you looked at Henning's Trains Collector Colors?

Hello John, Do the Collector Colors come in an aerosol Can??I've heard of them, but I thought they were all airbrush bottles.(except for touch ups of course),if you've got a GOOD brush, you can do perfect touch ups! That;s the whole secret to doing an unseeable touch up. Thanks!!!

Henning's sells a spray kit that you can use with any paint, including theirs, the Preval Spray Painting System.  Here's the link on the site for Spray Paint Products.

Thanks for the input guys!!! I think I might trick this one out, and give it a BLACK WIDOW pant scheme.I saw one of those BLACK WIDOW F3's yesterday at Stockyrd Express ,and that's a way cool paint scheme. I know,I know. It's mine, and I can always put it back to UP boring brown if it don't come out great.

Black and chrome with red accents, and some car pin striping .I used to be good with that Pinstripe.I could do names in the late 90's.So,I think I should still be able to run a stripe down it still.!!!(LOL)!!!!!

I'm mad, completely MAD!!!!AHHHHHHAAAA!!!!!!

I mean, ya always see the yellow and UPbrown one everyplace .

When people say :WHY? I say,WHY NOT???

Time to start strippin'that old paint off. There's a reason why they call that stripper BULLDOZER!!!

Might as well kill 2 or 3 of those 10 brain cells I have left!!!!! AHHHHHHAAAA!!!!!!

Sorry Kenny, not for sale at this time, but you can usually find them on ebay for $10-20.  If anything, I need a few more lol.

I did a city of Denver repaint for a friend last year. I used Hennings UP yellow and tried both Hennings and Charlies brown paint. Hennings is more correct in this color. I used paint for airbrushing, you could use the Preval system too. The guy that took over Charlie Woods paint is actually the one who has always mixed it. He can be very hard to get a hold of. I don't know if Hennings provides spray cans.If you use airbrush paint from either maker be SURE TO STRAIN the brown paint! I used laquer thinner or mineral spirits during the process. It appeared to dry faster with laquer thinner.

I have always liked Train Enamel by Charlie Woods. His spray cans work very well, no need for an air brush.

Train enamel

Last I heard he had retired and sold it to some paint place but for some reason the website is still up and it still has his phone number. and this was like 2 years ago
