LOTS, TTOS to name a couple more.
Some clubs offer special cars as fund raisers. Often these clubs do not require membership to purchase the car. Many of these offerings are announced on this board.
I'm a member of the MTH club, but I choose to not buy the special car, I'd rather pick what I buy.
TCA offers cars in several gauges for their annual conventions, but you have to be a member to buy. About every ten years or so, they've had engines as well.
In addition to those mentioned above, various chapters/divisions of the TCA offer special cars throughout the year, and there are other clubs out there like NLOE and CLRC that offer special cars. The independent clubs usually don't require membership to purchase their special offerings.
I belong to TCA, LCCA, and LOTS, and I "join" the manufacturers' clubs when they are making something I want.

Williams by Bachmann is letting you select which car you want when you join the Williams club, also get a Bachmann Trains catalog mailed to you. In years past it was Bachmann offering a special club car, but this year they let you choose a freight car in value up to $67.00(if I am correct) however you pay about $45.00 to join.

T.C.A The best way to go. And if you join you can look for special club cars at York with the rest of us nuts!
Andrew87,
There's a nice TCA passenger set listed in the For Sale Forum. It's a beautiful set. One that took a few years to put together.
You can join more than one. Lots of people do.
According to your profile you are a fellow New Yorker so I would think the TCA is your best choice. As a TCA member you receive their magazine and their for sale booklet plus you can go to York. In New York if you don't want to drive to York there are charter bus trips from upstate and from the Long Island metro area. Info on these trips are available on the Eastern Division of the TCA website. Lenny
The TCA has activities in the NYC metropolitan area and in the Buffalo area. I don't know which activities are open to the public, and which require membership.
I believe that next summer's convention is going to be in NYC.
I've belonged to the TCA for quite a while, but I have never been to a convention. I may try to make this one, even if it is only for a day.
TCA & LCCA.
TCA & LCCA.
I would agree with this to start out with. Both of these organizations are top notch and produce some wonderful "one of a kind" train items.
Steve, Lady and Tex
what part of the county do you live?
I just joined the LCCA
I'm more inclined to join the brotherhood of crappy basement modelers, but sadly, my layout is in the garage....

Hi Andrew,
The Toy Train Operating Society (TTOS) has two divisions in New York, the Empire & Eastern Division is in the Schenectady area and the Niagara Frontier Division is in the Buffalo area. Both divisions are very active and have wonderful people who love their trains and all the other wonderful benefits this hobby has to offer. In fact, we just had our annual convention in Buffalo where everyone was treated to some of the most incredible layouts in the hobby. By the way did I mention the people are all fantastic as well!
Here are contacts for both divisions:
Empire & Eastern - Harold Rockowitz at rockyrr43@gmail.com
Niagara Frontier - Jim Strom at nfdttos@verizon.net
If you drop me a line at ttos@ttos.org with your mailing information I will send you a copy of our quarterly publication, The Bulletin.
We also offer exclusive cars to our members.
We would love to have you as a member of TTOS.
Regards,
Randall Giroux

Hello AL K............
Does this club have women members that collect and operate lionel trains ? I asked because I was a collector and operator of lionel trains in the past but I just run the trains and used to collect but not anymore. I was a member of the TTOS and I was disappointed of the last TTOS swap meet in 2001 where I was the only woman there buying trains and all were just men so I felt completely left out. I left the TTOS.

Tiffany,
yes, there are Women members in the LCCA. We also have a lot of female family members. With the new influx of LRRC members, I do not know the number of female members. It is not a majority of our members, but we believe we are a very family friendly club with something for everyone in the family to enjoy. If you need to talk, please call me at 248 709-4137
I invite you to try it for a year. I also would suggest that you may want to write an article in our club publication, the Lion Roars. We have had a few stories written by our female train collector members. Every article is an original piece and written by our members. I would love to see more articles from your perspective, you are not alone.
sincerely,
Al Kolis
