Which hall would be best to find the 3 car vision line ethanol tank cars?
Which hall for a K-Line Hudson?
Thanks for any help, my understanding is it is easy to get overwhelmed there the first time or two. I will definetly be going to the OGR area.

I'd start with Orange and then go to Purple. Hit Brown on the way (not that I think you'll find them there.....but it's real small and easy to go through)...... Then you have the try the member halls and hope to get lucky.
if a dealer has one advertised for a reasonable price, call them and have them bring it there. I'd call Vince's Trains for the KLine Hudson. Or go there 1st. Orange hall......go in the door to the north of the concession stand and turn right.

New products can be found in the Orange, Brown, and Purple halls.
Jeff,
Start with the Oranage Hall, then Purple, Brown. Those are the dealer halls and are close to each other. Then head to the member halls. You will find a mix of Post War, American Flyer, Standard Gauge, and modern. I think Sliver might be your besst bet for the Hudson. Good Luck. See you at Friday's on Thursday.

Hi Jeff,
Look up forum member GEF. He is my friend George. I think he has the vision tankers you are looking for And is looking to sell them, I think. We are going to York Friday of York week.
i aways started at the halls with the member tables, best deals of the meet occur in the 1st hour, good chance there will be kline hudsons there.i would visit the orange hall last- since its open later in the day>>>>> think of orange, brown, purple as retail and the member halls silver, blue, red as wholesale.-jim
You're probably spot on for the new PS3 tinplate search.
Not to contradict the others for the Tank Cars and Hudson, but I'd consider the member halls as a more probable solution.
For these 2, it depends on the current level of interest in these items by the Hobby as a whole.
I don't follow the KL Hudson (haven't looked into seeing how many are generally for sale or if folks that have them are holding on to them), but if I'm not mistaken the Vision tank cars are still a somewhat favored item. I'm using them for the theory below.
When an item is "hot", some folks (dealers or members alike) are going to price the items a bit high in hopes of getting a bite and maybe making a decent amount on the sale (which obviously sometimes works, or no one would do it ) I'm not criticizing this practice, as in the end it balances out with the items that need to be "blown out" at reduced prices to actually move.
You will sometimes find an exception though where a member with a variety of items on the table may just try to get a fair (or even bargain) price out of it so he can take in a few bucks on his items to generate some cash. I've run into quite a few good deals on items in the member halls over the years.
You need to of course also be cognizant enough to ask the important questions regarding whether the item works, can you do a visual inspection to make sure there are no hideous flaws, etc. (sometimes the price reflects such characteristics)
Good luck in any event. In summary, I will suggest that if you see something you really want and it's a price (and condition/functionality) you feel is fair, you should go for it unless you already have a feeling that they are plentiful. Otherwise in many cases, the item is gone when you go back. Many of us I am sure have stories of the "ones that got away" at York!
Enjoy your first York!

Hi Jeff,
I am in the orange hall row JJ1...Vince's Trains. We have a 20 x 30 booth. I hope to see you there.

Jeff,
I can't help you with what hall to go but I can tell you this about York especially if this your first time... You will be like a kid who visits the candy store for the first time. The amount of trains for sale will amaze you.
Other than dealer and non-dealer, there is absolutely no organization to the halls.
The show folks do try to keep people's table locations consistent. So, if you find somebody who has the sort of stuff you like, the odds are, they will be in the same location at the next show (if they have a table).
To add to what C.W. said, even if you find someone in a member hall who has a load of building kits for example on his table this year, there is no guarantee he will bring the same merchandise next time.
Many tableholders are just hobbyists who are clearing out excess equipment and supplies. One year it may be scenery items, the next it might be accessories, the next rolling stock, etc.
But, if you find someone with a good variety at decent prices, chances are it will be worth checking him out next time also.
The uncertainty of what you might find, and where it might be, contributes to the treasure hunt aspect of York, and makes checking every hall very worthwhile.

Jim's description should fit the vast majority of tableholders in the member (non-dealer) halls. These folks are not vendors, they are fellow hobbiests. Anybody in the business of buying and selling train related merchandise belongs in one of the dealer halls.
I miss the Gold Hall and the Green Hall and Anthony Michael Hall.
And don't forget the Hall Of The Mountain King!
