James looks great, but the house creeps me out. Reminds me of the movie Psycho.
Ooo!

I really like the intricate rock and "green" work.

The five-sided bank next door to it is something I bashed/scratchbuilt from DPM building pieces to fit the awkward space the hobby shop left at the corner.

That bank is really nice Lee. This is what makes it so interesting where necessity is truly the mother of invention!

I'm with you Sam,

I love a building or scene that just popped out of someones head .I like how you blended that switch tower into that upper elevation. When you look at it it looks like it could be that way in real life.

I also like Lee's bank. There's no other like it,it's Lee's interpretation. To me there is no better building than the one that came from your imagination.

Thanks for starting this thread Frank, there are so many scenes that give inspiration I really love the scenes that portray an expansive landscape – maybe one day I’ll have space for something like that.
In the meantime, I’m scrutinizing those urban shots with all the convincing details. That’s what I’m shooting for in my scenes.
Here’s one of my favorite places to stand on my railroad, it must be early on a weekend because the platform is almost empty…

I posted a picture of my favorite building (Cowen's Corner Hobby) earlier.

As to scenes, I love to set up vignettes that each tell a simple story. This is one of my favorites. Its the 1950s in a small American town. What's the chance two owners of British sports cars would meet? They've pulled over to talk about their love for low-slung motorcars that leak oil on garage floors. The model cars are particularly nice, detailed ones and I worked hard on the figures, particularly liking the owner leaning against his TR-3 with his arm resting on the convertible top.

I agree,

It would take some work but I'd like to see something along those lines.
There are guys that haven't posted to this thread yet that are world class modelers and I could definitely envision some of your pictures Don in there as well.
I hope this thread will continue for some time to come as I know we haven't seen but just the tip of the iceberg.

David
Don,
I just read Rich's notice that the new forum will be up and running February 1st.

Since everything will be archived maybe we can talk the powers that be into moving this to the scenery forum and making it a sticky that can be added to.

We had something similar to that at my old N scale forum where guys could post pictures of their work with comments .Yea I know it's like the photo forum but this would be in the scenery forum where it would be logical for new comers to look for ides without having to sift through all the other stuff.
Good Idea? Bad? What do you think?

David, I'm so glad you like the idea of this thread. It has quickly become such a happy place. When I initiated it, I placed it here so that a larger audience of posters (I post on the "Scenery" sub-forum, also) would have a chance to see it and consider sharing their many, many good ideas and personal joys with favorite places on their layouts. It's gratifying to have your voice, and that of so many others who were so kind as to say they liked this thread, voicing enthusiatic support. I think we are all looking forward to seeing more of that "iceberg."
Frank
Frank,

I was hoping we'd see some comments from Allan Miller but so far the proliferater of penmanship is a no show.

I also haven't seen posts from SIRT,Vulcan,Frank53 and several of the others that are scenery forum mainstays.

I'm thinking maybe they took Allan Miller hostage and their holding him till Rich buys them each a Vision Line Loco(Hope Allan Gets one out of it too.)
gee Rich I do hope I didn't put ideas in anyone's head. Big Grin
