This is kind of a two part question here. I want to be to run both fixed  for PS2 and PS3, and the variable inputs for PS1 and other conventional. engines. However, MTH does not recommend using the Z1000 bricks for PS1 engines, due to the Sine Wave. Does anyone run this configuration? I looked in previous posts and could not find anything.

Thanks,

Paul,

There is a reason I invested in 3,  Z4K Transformers, with the Remote Commander Side Receivers, along with the DCS TIU you have all the running options, for all the different engines including conventional.  Add the Legacy 990 Base with the Cab2 and you cover the full spectrum of both Lionel & MTH, including the operation of FasTrack Command Control switches.

Hope this helps a might.

The trick is to pick up the Z4K Transformers when somebody is willing to sell them at more than reasonable prices, I acquired 2 of mine in this manner.  It's not just the power the Transformers provide, it's all the different running options that come with that power, that IMO make Bricks a waste of money, unless some one gives you the Brick for free.

If you want to go a less expensive route, and you plan on running your conventional engines using only the DCS remote, buy Lionel PowerHouse 180(s).  These are pure sign wave power supplies; they have no throttle.  Use one to four depending on your power needs.  I personally would buy two PH180s, one for the two fixed channels and one for the two variable channels.  These would wire direct to the TIU (wire to one channel, jump to the other); either cut off the end plug or buy the adapter.  Will run any engine with no issues and they have a very fast CB.

Downside: may be hard to find until the new ones start to show up.

I just bought two PH 180's from forum sponsor Eastside Trains.  Good price and showed up in less than a week.  Not sure how many they have in stock.  Mine were stamped with the 2014 production rev date.  A lot of other sites were out of stock but taking back orders.
