I decided to reduce my road names to just the Union Pacific and Santa Fe, Steam and diesel, How about you?
I do have 5 of the NS heritage units also .

For O scale I guess I do. B&O, Chessie B&O, and CSX. I would consider these only one road name.

I'm a runner, so no realism for me. So I have locomotives from all over, and I'm sure it'll continue to grow. I understand why some like to keep their model railroad realistic, but it's not my cup of tea.
Me. Jersey Central, Lehigh Valley, NJ Transit. Might add a CSX or NS unit down the line so I can change eras on the layout but CNJ is the primary road name.
Dave, I've been moving towards PRR, Reading, and PRSL, and I am enjoying the hobby more as a result, and of course it's easier on the finances.
Santa Fe Steam and Transition Era for me. That's it!
Alaska RR, U.S. Army Transportation Corps...that's it.
SEABOARD AIR LINE of course. Here's my newly completed class Q3 Mikado, look at the beautiful face:
I wouldn't mind getting something for Atlantic Coast Line (maybe a USRA Pacific) and N&W (the mighty "J"), but I'm lucky just to have the 10 engines I do.
David,
I am 95% PRR, 4% Norfolk Southern and 1% Lackawanna.
I expect the Lackawanna will grow as I just purchased a Lionel Mogul w/TMCC (was a Walbash repainted to Lackawanna). I am currently looking for a caboose which will bring Lacakawanna up to 2%

I started my collection with the Pennsylvania RR and then added CNJ and Reading. That's it for now.
I have CB&Q, NP, SP, UP, GN, C&O, NYC, PRR, WM, NKP, and N&W. However, I generally changeout motive power every few months so that there is only one or two railroads represented at one time.
Based on locomotives:
Its PRR steam only for me. But I have an interest in many other roads.
I generally model the SP. However...I have a B&O steamer and passenger cars, a Grand Trunk steamer and a T&O 0-6-0 switcher. Matt
Chicago South Shore & South Bend, Monon and my wife has 1 Mohawk NYC.......for her great grandfather. If it wasn't for that there would be just 2.
Lionel Lines & New Haven (due to McGinnis scheme on EP5, so cool!).
Pete
Engines:
Primarily Rio Grande and UP but I have a few others.
I plan on repainting most of them to Rio Grande.
As far as rolling stock, those mixed in Real Life so I try to have more western roads but I'll run anything that is close to Steam era.
I recently picked up a Flat with a pair of 56 Ford Ranchero's on it, I know it's too modern but I like the car.
I collect and run Pennsylvania RR, and only by Lionel
I also have other, more colorful Lionel, like Disney, Spirit of 76, Girls & Boys Train, Warner Brothers, Thomas, Circus.
Oh yes, as fitting, some Lionel US Army.
Rock Island in traditional 3 rail...in tinplate and G, it's a variety...
Are we just talking locomotives here? If so, I run Pennsylvania (all steam so far) and a company railroad - Weirton Steel (diesel switcher). In my era, approximately 65% of my freight cars should be PRR, but I have no idea if I am adhering to that percentage.

I'm well underway with a focus on New York Central steam. A few special interests remain - The SP Daylight, N&W J, Penn Central here and there, and the requisite UP Big Boy.
I have PRR, Erie, C&O, U.P. and Great Northern. All Steam except for a doodlebug and a commuter set.
I had several road names too. Now, I am down to Pennsylvania RR steam and Western Maryland RR steam and diesel.
My main road is the New Haven with a NH branch line Housatonic, then New York Central and Pennsylvania.
My main road is Chessie System (B&O,C&O,WM) in the mix. I do mostly diesel and not to much steam.
Since I have had trains beginning in the fifties and been buying trains since the seventies, I have a lot of road names. In the last ten years I have narrowed down to four roads.
(1) NYC
(2) Penn Central
(3) New Haven
(4) Pennsy
Bill
My loco's are basically from one region, even if the time frame changes.
My engines are mainly Reading, WM, Conrail, NS, NS Reading Heritage, PRR. I have a few outliers like a UP diesel and ACL Steamer.
So no, I don't concentrate on one road but I do usually stay to the same geographical area.
Unless of course it looks cool!
1) NYC
2) Lionel Lines
3) PRR
4) SP
All transition era with an emphasis on steam.

My collection (recently reduced by 90%) now includes only Detroit Toledo & Ironton and Ann Arbor roadnames.
PRR & GN mostly, but there is always room for a few exceptions.
I understand why there is motivation to limit road names for members who concentrate on a very limited number. But for me, there are just too many road names that I love, so I have made no attempt to place limitations on the number of road names on our layout. If the passenger train looks good, that is enough motivation for me.
I have twenty different road names in locomotives and many more in rolling stock.
but almost all diesel just three steamers(2 PRR, 1 Reading). Love command control so only a few are conventional.
I started out doing PRR but don't do it anymore. I'm now CSX, NS, Conrail, & Amtrak although I do own a couple of U.P. & BNSF engines. My rolling stock is mixed modern equipment.
Joe B.
Rock Island
Illinois Central
Gulf Mobile & Ohio
I have all Union Pacific and Santa Fe except for a very few special, iconic locos (NYC Vision Hudson, the Blue Comet, PRR S-2, etc., that I can't bring myself to repaint/re-label as UP or SF).
