MTH would produce the SD9 diesel locomotive in both of the Soo Line paint schemes, if they were sure that somebody would buy it.
Who would actually buy it to operate on their tracks?
Here is a image showing photos of the SOO SD9 in the original 1950's paint scheme and the SOO SD9 in the 1960's paint scheme.
I would buy the 1960's red & white version of SOO 2381.

I'd like to see a re-tooled Premier version. And yes, I'd take either one (or both).
The MTH SD9 is, of course, an SD7, No problem for me, as I like the "seven" a little bit better anyway. The Soo variation is a four ladder job...excellent! So sign me up for a '50s unit, even though I don't do Soo. A premier version of this chooch is waaaay overdue....but Mike; don't mess with the radiators just to make them "see through". What the current chooch needs is working number boards and markers....plus stand off ladders at all four corners. A better pilot would help a lot too, with a real fuel tank.
Tough call. Even though I do not model the SOO (I have some stuff and pre-ordered the new F3 ABA set). I grew up with the 60's scheme but have come to love the older scheme. I would take either in Premiere with scale wheels/fixed pilots.
I would surely purchase the MTH SD7/9 if, and when, they "re-tool" it for scale wheels and fixed pilots. I would prefer a CB&Q version, however.

Try this instead.

That's because MTH is not about to spend the necessary dollars to "re-tool" their SD7/9 models, when Sunset/3rd Rail just issued their truly spectacular models!
Like MTH is worried about the current one shot sunset deal that cost over $700+ per unit! If MTH retooled the SD9 with the correct marker light positions, dual motors, ps3 electronics, scale fuel tanks, see through screens, and wrapped it in a package of $500.00 they would have many orders. At the $500.00 price point, it doesn't pay for someone to take a rk or the old premier version and update it. However the $700+ price point does make it economicly viable.
I like the red and white version and would buy it in a heartbeat, Premiere or Railing Scale!
The RailKing version of the SOO SD9 would be fine, if it matched the SOO LINE RS-27 pair.

As long as MTH doesn't screw up the lettering like the horrible job they did with their Soo F-3s, I'd be interested in both versions.
I don't believe MTH is overly concerned with any of the Sunset single run projects, usually fewer 3 rail buyers than 2 railers on runs of less than 500 pieces. MTH , Lionel and to a lesser extent Atlas get multiple repainted reruns on their tooling at much greater numbers per run even with BTO. JMO
