I was able to purchase a PRR S1 from a OGR forum member. Ever since I found out about this loco from reading my father-in-law's 'Pennsy Power' books I wanted one. In HO only expensive brass models that didn't always run well were made. When I switched to O 3r I found a number of them had been made. When this one came up for sale I bought it. Super nice model!! I was a happy railroader.

So why do I now like it more????

Last week I was in NC visiting family.  I told my father-in-law about my 'new' locomotive. His father had worked for the PRR out of Altoona as did many family members. My father-in-law went on to tell me he had been in the famous loco!!!

The family had gone to the 1939 World's Fair. The went to the American Railroads display. While standing at the railing around the S1 display a family relative climbed from the cab. He came over and opened the gate and told my father-in-law and family to climb up into the cab of S1!! They got yhje Fifty Cent tour as I was told and got to sit in the cab seats. WOW...I can't imagine seeing a S1....but sitting in the cab!

Just a neat story about trains and how they can bind people even over a span of many years!!!

PRR S1 on display.....
