Why is my profile image being removed

Did you read and understand the "avatar rules"?  Your avatar SHOULD be a recognizable IMAGE of your face.

Was this recently changed? The original profile image I had on here for well over a year was only recently removed.

I didn't see what you tried to use as an avatar, but the specs are laid out in the Terms of Service link in the blue bar on top (second from right)

 

The actual guidelines are item #9 in the section "Posting Guidelines" at the bottom of the page.

Then the argument is moot at this point. Thank you for the help clarifying. Guess I wont be changing the image from its default then.

We should all just be grateful there isn't a "Your ugly and your mother dresses you funny" rule pertaining to avatars.

Stone Rhino, I think the problem was that your avatar was animated, even though it was a picture of you. Nobody else here has one of those. It was clever, but also distracting. Imagine if everyone did it.

Elliot I wasn't even going to say anything but, Stone's avatar was a neat animation I seen it yesterday. I had to grin because I knew it wouldn't be up long. I remember having a hard time trying to get mine to the correct size. So far I think I got it right.

It wasn't a picture of him. It was Will Farrel. Nuff said.

Recently, there was a member who was using a photo of the former Prime Minister of England, John Major. I haven't seen it lately, but I think it slid past for a long time....

We rely on you folks to help us keep things running right. We don't see anywhere near all the posts here. There is way too much activity here for us to see it all.

 

if you see an Avatar that doesn't meet specs, use the alert icon to let us know.

 

I know that some of you don't like the Avatar rule, but there is a reason for it. We want you to be able to use the Avatars to be able to recognize other forum members when you attend train shows around the country.

 

I guess I'll also have to add a "No animated gif files." rule to the Avatar rule.

I think some of the users that join this forum are used to other forums where people do not meet and avatars are an expression of the user in their opinion. This forum is about the hobby of trains and about the people that are in the hobby. I think it takes time for new users to understand that.

It was not a picture of him.  It was Will Farrel banging on a cow bell.  I have seen that animated gif before.  Seriously, how hard is it to throw up a picture of oneself? 

I have to admit that the avatar rule is kinda weird. I would prefer to have a picture of my dog, because he's my best friend. But no. So now I have a picture of how I felt when they took my dog avatar down.

I guess that's two votes for Will Farrel (whom I strongly dislike). I stand corrected. That just makes it a double fail!

Lots of folks consider the OGR's Avatar rule silly but most follow it just fine. They understand we are guests here and if that is a rule for being welcomed here we follow it. Sort of like the perceived silly EDTCA York rules. Most of us follow them whether it be those silly arrows or having or badge visible. After all we are guests there too.
