Question for manufacturers, why no covered wagon EMD power in Southern Pacifics bloody nose scheme? I have a set of Phoenix Railways Sunset Limited cars that are eagerly awaiting some F units. Lionel has Alco PA's available but I would like to see F or E units of whatever model SP really used.

Those cars look very Williams!
Dominic, They are Phoenix cars, 8 car consist with a blunt end sleeper. The Bachmann Williams forum responded that they liked the idea for a set of F3's in this scheme. I think some Williams F3's would go great with these cars
Baldwin demo locos handle the train while I wait for bloody nose.

Answer: Because the SP bloody nose scheme is too "new". They are too busy painting everything Black Widow and Daylight.
Do they have to be Legacy or DCS?
I run conventional.... no interest in Lagacy or DCS
3rd Rail still has their bloody nose E9s available for reservation.
Before moving to O from HO I modeled western roads.....EsPee was one of them. The good thing is a bloody nose F would be easy to do yourself. I have not done one myself but may get around to it. To hold us over a bloody nose hood!
That scheme would not be much harder than this Rio Grande I painted.....
Not to different than this one.....one body color with the nose a 2nd color.

Hmmm...going to check these out. Thanks!
AMCDave.. nice idea, I have done some simple paint jobs but I prefer to avoid those projects anymore. I painted my own VIA Rail locomotives with marginal results.
Were there any SP Bloody Nose EMD F-units? I was questioning the E-unit, but someone mentioned that 3rd Rail offered them, so that's good enough for me.
Anyway, my knowledge of SP diesel paint schemes is broad, but not deep - and I didn't run across a photo of a Bloody Nose EMD F after a quick and dirty internet search. Were there any? Photos?

3rd Rail is offering the E9 in the Bloody Nose scheme. Reservations are closed, but where they are in production a direct note to Scott Mann might help to see if there are some unreserved or if the production run could come up a few more units.
There are lots of photos online of Bloody Nose FP7s as they continued into Amtrak service. Some of the F7s got that paint as well, although there a lot of photos of Black Widow F7s on the deadline too.
The locomotive behind the FP7 is an E9. SP only purchased E7s and E9s. Externally however, it is a moot point there aren't any differences between and E9 and an E8. Internally they were 2400 HP over 2250.
Well, there you go - Bloody Nose EMD F's. New to me. My search was just too quick and too dirty, I guess.
Good to know; I like the Bloody Nose. That dead line E9 (love the plow pilot) is striking. Almost as striking as the SP Bloody Nose Alco PA's with the plow pilots.
Lots of SP bloody nose in this awesome early Amtrak footage.

Oh, my . . . yes!!!! A couple of hundred. SP actually did a pretty thorough job of painting most of its engines red and grey by 1965. The freight units were traded back to EMD in large numbers in the late 1960's, but the FP7's were used right until the end of SP passenger service, and then used some more by Amtrak in its early years. In the late 1960's, grey FP7's, boiler-equipped F7's, and E9A's were the mainstay motive power of SP through passenger trains, along with a small number of SDP45's.
Go to rail pictures.net and search SP E7's, E9's, FP7's and F7's.

Very pretty Scott. Whose Illinois Centrals are those behind the SP's please?
SP "Bloody Nose"...
Well... the "Black Widow" scheme is very classy... but I dunno'... that "Bloody Nose" scheme looks really good too. Especially on an F/E.
IF I were an SP freak... I could see wanting both.
My two cents.
Carry on!
