I got this off eBay having no idea what it was.  I got it and still have no idea.  Made by KOL industries, it is remarkably well made which is no surprise when you see that the company specializes in "Architectural Woodwork".  My question is WHY?  What is the connection to Lionel?  Why would they go to the expense and considerable effort?   It sports a 637 which as far as I can tell, is like new, if not new.  It is wired down which makes it difficult to do the normal inspection.

That raises my second question.  Has anyone seen a tender with brass (or copper handrails).  I've seen one, this one.  The frame says 2046W-50 which dates it late in production, ~1963.  I've forgotten  when 027 track sported brown ties (sacrilege - 'O' gauge engine Mounted on 027 track).

Thank you for your consideration,

What an interesting piece of display work. Although I can't tell from here, it appears to be a totally normal #637 Adriatic from the late 50s ('58 ?) with a nicely worked up #2046-50, the normal tender that came with the loco. The tender and the display, I believe, is what sets this apart, and could not be confused with normal Lionel production. Also, the tender railing going into the tender appears to be drilled out. Nice piece, anyway!

One of the mysteries is solved.  I'm totally ashamed of myself.  That style tender shell did not come with handrails.   Actually two mysteries are solved.  I never mentioned that i was under the impression that the -50 model only came as 'Pennsylvania'.  I think someone modified the 'Lionel Lines' shell and then swapped the shells.

Given my current history of tender shell knowledge, I am probably wrong again.

Anyway I'm down to the display base being the only weird thing unless you want to question why the 637.  The base definitely deserves a Hudson.

Next thing is Jim's advice.  I'm going to attempt to contact KOL Industries.
