A qualified "yes." I've never done it, but . . . as far as I know the chassis from the BEEF "A" and "B" units should be interchangeable.
It's a bit of work, mind you, because you have to disconnect the wires that run to the connecting plugs through the body. They are underneath the electronics boards kn both the "A" and "B" units.
Yes, I did it. I bought three B units and used one chassis to power the unpowered A unit in an A-A set so I had a full four unit, eight-motor train. It's awesome.

Can you just take off the shell of the dummy A and put it on the frame of the powered B without soldering wires or stuff?
