Well,

It is getting to be time for York again.  Are there any hints that there will be a new tinplate catalog coming out?

Wouldn't it be sweet if MTH would make a standard gauge GG1 set?  Having Tuscan and DGLE variants with 5 cars would be really nice, expensive, and most probably  a big seller.

Of course,I am still looking for a remake of Dr. Folb's Set.

I believe there would also be a niche market for traditional motors and e-units! ALL my current standard gauge are traditional as I have had it with the modern electronics! My Lionel Classics Fireball 390E has an air whistle that will blow you out of the room! My train room is also too small for an MTH smoke unit! (gasp!)

From what I have been told, by a dealer, is these 400E’s are already made but they aren’t painted. I have a feeling that we won’t be seeing any more 400E’s after these custom sets for a long time. If you want one I would highly recommend buying one now.

I ordered the Army 400E and will order the cars when announced, but I’d like to some more 384’s but get rid of the POS wireless tether. The smaller loco’s are much easier to lug around to shows and meets.

Steve,

I totally missed it. What catalog had the Army 400E?I can't find it on MTH website.

Joe, it’s an exclusive for Pats Trains. http://www.patstrains.com/View...Details=View+Details

Only ten were going to be available. Not sure if he has any left. He also had a 400E in Santa Fe, again only ten.

Sidetrack Hobbies also has some specials, again only ten of each type. The specials are unique to each dealer.

So far they are only listing the engines, the passenger cars will come along later.

Totally agree, I also like Lionel old school.

Smoke units would be a nice touch (with on and off switch).
No engines or whistle sounds needed as the train running over tubular track produces the correct prewar sound and a old American Flyer billboard air whistle is all I need.

Just my opinion

Steve,

Thank you for the info. I contacted Pat and he had one left.  Now they are all spoken for.

I was poking around the Sidetrack Hobbies website but could not find their special runs.  Do you have any more info on what their special set roadnames are?

Also I was wondering how you heard about these in the first place.  Did you get an email from MTH? The dealer? Word of mouth?

Probably no new catalog and most certainly no new tooling. Word on the sreet is that there's too much inventory out there.  The 400e sets that were just announced is probably about it for a while. Would really like to see the Olympian done in some new paint schemes as well as an O Gauge Halloween set.

I was at the NMRA train show in Kansas city today and asked Andy Edelman from MTH if there would be a Standard Gauge catalog this year. He told me one would be coming out soon.

By the way if you are into Standard Gauge the NMRA show is a disappointment, lots of electronics but nothing for standard gauge.  When one vendor asked me what gauge I modeled in and I replied standard he replied rather haughty "there's nothing for you here". I guess he also quickly figured out there also wouldn't be a sale here.
