Is there a trick to removing the aluminum body from the frame to change the lamps to LEDs? A portion of the truck gets stuck as I try to slide the body from the frame. I have searched this forum for an answer with no luck. These are 15 inch aluminum cars if that helps.

There should be a screw that removes the entire truck assembly plate (look under the ). Removing this will allow you to slip the truck plate out of the slots and free up the bottom to be removed.
It should look like the one below.

That was it! Thank you so much, Allan.
Let me know how the led switch over works.
I have some passenger cars I would like to switch over.
As it is the lights in the cars take more power than the engine.
I have placed plug and play LED in my W AL cars. More light less heat.
I have replaced all of my williams passenger car lights ( 22 cars) with led replacement bulbs from town and country hobbies. The 1445 warm white bulbs work great and it is just a plug in and go no soldering or adding resistors.

The switchover went quite well considering I am electrically challenged and an old dog not fond of new tricks. I am finding, however, that if I work methodically and pay attention to every step, I can do a lot. I have added a sound board to the infamous 18003 Northern, added lamps and Miller Engineering signs to the layout, and now added LED strips to my new Williams GN passenger cars.

Look at my post above - there is a screw under the coupler shaft that allows the truck to be removed. Once removed, the floor will slide out the end of the aluminum shell.
What I did was remove the 2 screws that hold the ends of each car on, slide the ends off and the bottom slides out , replace the bulbs and slide the bottom back on, replace the ends and screws and done. I was able to do the baggage cars by just replacing the bulbs through the open doors but it was a bit tricky.
