WILLIAMS GG200S GG-1 A-A SET

Williams Crown Edition Line double headed PRR GG-1 set from 1996 (almost 20 years old).

What is interesting is that it is a traditional size cast metal body set of two PRR GG-1s - One powered unit and one dummy unit. The dummy unit has a "True Sounds" board.

The advertising on the box says:

1. Live sound recordings of an actual diesel - low, medium and high.

2. Live sound recording of the diesel horn and bell.

3. Live sound recordings of the engineer

The November 1996 Williams sales flyer states that the Williams GG-1 has a True-Sounds recording of traction motors and a single note GG-1 horn. Therefore the information on the Williams box for this set is in error. The GG-1 does NOT have diesel sounds according to the Williams sales flyer.

The chassis of each is painted in Pennsy Tuscan with 5 stripes (road numbers are 4816 and 4818)

The original invoice for this set shows that the set was shipped direct from Williams. (dated December 9, 1996)

Invoice price was $469.00 (That is a lot of money for a very basic model train in 1996)

Note: This set is a good match for the MTH 20-6017 4-car 60 foot smoothside aluminum passenger set.

What I find amusing about the above description - and I have seen it on other Williams

electrics - is the claim of "recordings of an diesel". The GG1's in the box I would certainly

hope would -not- make "diesel sounds" at any speed, as they were not diesel locomotives.

I'm presuming that they don't do this...?

I realize that post-brass Williams claim to fame is not extreme accuracy, and having only

two box descriptors (steam or diesel) saves a few pennies, but, really!

Pro Hobby,

D500 makes a good point, if these PRR GG1 engines have never been out of the box,

and never been tested, how do you know what sounds are actually programmed into the old GG1.  If there are diesel sound programmed in the old GG1 by mistake, from the original Williams company, and someone purchases this set, stand back for the fire works.

PCRR/Dave
