I have set up a two oval layout at church for VBS which is train themed this year. I took my Williams dual motor F7 to pull my PRR passenger train. It had been running quite well and then stopped. As I had run it a time or two previously on my home circle I did not turn it over to check the gears before running it. After it stopped, I noted that they appeared dry. I did take it back home and lubricated them and now it will light the lights but will not move. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. (The kids of all ages seemed to enjoy watching the trains.)

Take the body off and see if you can turn the flywheels by hand. If not, something is in the gears. If you can turn them, maybe the problem is electrical.
The early F7 models had brittle wiring that broke off just due to the turning action of the motor trucks. It would be highly unlikely that both motors failed at the same time due to a mechanical issue.
It can also be the e unit, I have had several of the early ones fried and needing replaced, smell it, if it smells burned and motor flywheel turns, it most likely is the e unit
You did not say how old it was. The early ones had neither e units nor flywheels. The can motors mount to the truck with one screw. If the everything turns freely I agree with electrical.
I looked at it again this PM, and am thinking that it's electrical as well. Also, one of the small intermediate gears is missing from one of the drive units. I don't know how old it is but it doesn't have a visible flywheel to turn. Tomorrow I'll take the mounting screw loose and see if I can see anything else that might be visible. Thanks for the advise and comment. It's appreciated.
No flywheel probably means pre 1995.
