So I want to double head.

Turns out, my 2 MTH steamers match each other perfectly (a Railking 2-8-0 and a Premier 2-8-4). Kinda makes sense.

Also turns out, my Williams GG1 with a Premier sound file, is only 2.5% faster than a Premier GP9.

I tested everything against the GG1. On a 535" loop with 3 O54 sections and the rest being straight, O72 or O82, The GP9 lost 17" per loop, The 2-8-0 and 2-8-4 lost 48" per loop. With the lack of a front coupler, I can't doublehead the steamers. I'd like to put the GG1 Behind a steamer, but I think 9% speed diff, will lead to bad things.

2.5% seems like it must be close enough, or conventional folks would never be able to do it.

Too bad DCS doesn't have compensation tables....

Nearly all DCS engines seem to be factory set to pretty well match each other for speed.

I have run many many long long trains with a variety of mixed power steam various diesel types and they have always matched and worked just fine together for long trains with head and tail end power + mid train power at different locations in the train.

DCS great design for matching speed as designed by MTH.

I repeated the experiment at Higer speeds after factory resets on all engines. Diesels are 8ish percent faster. I will figure it out?

Thanks

While I mention the Williams unit, it actually matches my MTH GP9, being less than 1%faster, after factory resetting all the engines. The issue is my MTH steamers match each other at 9% slower, than the diesels.

I'm going to send the Berk out for service in January. If it comes back matching the gp9, I will address the 2-8-0.

One would think move on, but the GP9 BELONGS on the head of my Pennsylvania passenger consist. The Rudolph 2-8-0 looks silly, not pulling Christmas cars, even to lotus rails. Not to mention, I just put passenger sounds in the gp9

John,

I factory reset them all. The 2-8-0 has the Rudolph sound file. The GP9 has the only GP9 passenger file, I could find (which is different than what it had at the beginning of the experiment) and the Berk has never been reloaded... I will hopefully join a club this year. (It's a goal every year). For now the GG1 is pulling more cars, than I had hoped for (23 and adding occasionally). No need for double head. Rudolph goes in the box (nephew/niece pending.)
