I have a Williams scale GG1 that I would like to convert to DCS.  I think I have read that this has been a popular conversion.  I'd like to hear from some folks who have done it to see what's involved other than adding the electronics.  For example do you keep the William's motors or are the flywheels too small for the timing tapes?  Thanks

No problem at all.  I have one in process right now, and the flywheels will be no issue.  There's plenty of room for the electronics, it should be a pretty easy conversion.  I have a TMCC one with a Cruise Commander, so I figured this one should get PS/2.

I strip everything but the motors out and start from scratch.  I also plan on using LED's for the headlights and the markers.  I have Lionel cab interiors to install in the shell and I'll be using the cab light to illuminate those.

This actually should be one of the easier conversions as the shell is pretty large with lots of free space.

Thanks for the reply.  I have read before that the large shell makes the addition of DCS pretty easy.  When you say the flywheels are not an issue are you refering to the diameter?  I thought they looked pretty thin compared to MTH flywheels which I thought would make adding the timming tape difficult.

Barry, Sorry I missed you post.  I haven't stopped by for a few days.  Thanks for the offer.  I've been keeping my eye out for a Railking GG1 figuring it would have the most usable parts such as lights etc. which would require the least amount of jury rigging.  Would you be interested in doing the conversion and keeping the engine for use as a dummy?

This would be an interesting one to convert and add smoke using the MTH Flash program for belching steam from the heat boiler.  I just picked one up from a train show.  Need to open it up once I catch up on repairs.

Sail Loco, I do conversions if your looking for some one to do it. I am just south of you.  G
