Nice work. My layout space will be strictly inside the third bay of my garage, though I could punch a hole in the back wall and run out to the back. It would need to be on elevated road bed. My neighbors would love that.

...just like on the 1:1 railroads...fighting Mother Nature 24/7/360.

Which is one of the 'joys' of outdoor railroading! 

If you're not into maintenance of ROW, grooming of landscape, competing with invasive flora/fauna, etc., etc., blah, blah, then Grosse Bahn is definitely not your branch of this wonderful hobby.

OTOH...When you're off to the beautiful start in these photos, clearly you're hooked!

Well? It's not going very fast but.....

I forgot why I stopped the concrete here. It was the site of a large maple. Luckily, it's pretty rotten now.

So another problem with this area was a thick growth of some type of moss ground cover. It completely encased the rails and made it impossible to run.

I'm looking forward to less maintenance in this area in the future!

I see that an outdoor RR is more of a landscaping job than a track laying job.

back at it again!

This area was plagued by sinking ballast. The pvc fence would bow out and allow the ground to sink. I had to add soil around the outside of the fence. Then I formed and poured concrete curbing. Then add back more soil, cover and add ballast.

had a short halt operations. It was another Aristo micro-switch for the frog that had shorted. It connected both rails together!

I had removed the small poly fuse that connected the switch to the frog. That didn't help here. Took some time to find the short as I blamed an engine first. Replaced the 2 Challengers with diesels and blew another fuse. So I had to look elsewhere.

I will run this season! even if it killllllllll, well I will run.

Finally!!!

I put the old siding back in, this time on concrete. It's smaller now because of the privacy fence blocked some of the space.

I also have a new plan for a 3rd loop that will circle around the shed. It will allow for the building up of a train without fouling up the main. The inner most siding track will switch off here to create that loop.

More work ahead.

I may also change the whole design to a folded dogbone.....

Next thing you got to do Joe is paint a scenery backdrop on the fence. Do it during halftime of the Bills games.

where does this end?

Rotten wood timbers along fence ( behind water falls) had to go. Got over ten years out of them I think.

Lots more to do. Just to keep what I have going. One step at a time....

blue plastic pieces are there because we just got a brief shower.
