Well, I have never had one, but judging from pictures online, it looks like it only needs two wires; one to each binding post. One will need to wired to the A B C or D terminal on the ZW, and the other two a U terminal (any one, they all go together on the inside). This can also be done through the track, by hooking it up to a lock-on, but then you are subject to the train's voltage, which might be different than the whistle would work best at, or slow down the train.

Now, if you just run the two wires to either of these options, the whistle will constantly blow, which could be a problem. You can fix this by installing a push button if you want to blow it at any time, or you could install a track trip/insulated section if you want it to blow at a certain point in the loop every time.

Like I said, I have never had one of these, so I might be wrong, but that's how it looks to me.

PS. It'll work best with a fixed voltage of 12-14v

Oh that sounds really neat! Maybe I should start keeping my eye out for one (cause I need more accessories on my overcrowded layout lol).

It's pretty tiny, Michael - 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" I think, so you should be able to squeeze one in somewhere.  There were also other versions that used the same dimunitive station building to house a small transformer - the #1012, #1027, etc.  They can usually be found quite inexpensively especially if the transformer doesn't work any more.
