With all the hype of the upcoming Lionel Vision Line UP Big boy, its MSRP of $2699, street price of a bit less than $2000 (for now), and the fact that I am going to sell ALL of my HO collection to get them, I would like to see some great features in addition to what Lionel had advertised. It is not too late for Lionel's engineers and their manufacturing in china to add some stuff of these wishes considering a delivery date of about Dec 2014.

Here is what I would like to see in it:

1. More intricately and separately applied details to surpass MTH or Lionel past Big boys, just a few more. There are so many that can easily be added on, so let us know what you guys want.

2. the same draw bar system as in their S3 steam engine (if they don't have it already) to keep the tender as close as possible to the loco.

3. sprung trucks on the loco and the tender such as in brass models.

4. Sprung trucks on the driving wheels such as in brass models.

5. More realistic crew talk based on that era. I DO EXPECT it to be cab number specific! it better be.

6. Bigger smoke fluid tanks so we don't have to fill them in as often, how about one big tank for all the smoke systems?

7. A wooden display case like Precision craft models did on their HO brass models a while back.

8. Dare I say, 3-2 rail conversion capable?

9. Dare I say again, DCC ability...why not? MTH has done it for years, Lionel can do it too....

10. This one follows, Scale wheels model option?

11. Serialized model numbers for each cab number.

12. The steam whistle effect should come out of the whistle itself, not a hole under it.

12. I can think of many more, but let's hear what you guys want too...

This is for fun and to explore what we customers would like to see. So please take it easy and have some wishful thinking, may be they will listen!!!

Actually, if you're hoping to see the locomotive released this year, it IS too late to make significant modifications to the model.  Production-related specs would have been determined and finalized some time ago.

I agree with Alan, the features of the VLBB are most likely all set.  Most of the changes listed would probably require some major retooling and delays.

However:

2: Expanding drawbar (like the S2).  This should be a given in this day and age, not only for the VLBB, but any premium steam locomotive from any manufacturer.  The Europeans have been doing it in HO for decades.

5: Specific crew talk.  While I'm not a fan of cab chatter of any kind, crew talk is software and could be done.  However, I don't know at which point in the production line the electeronics are programmed.  If the boards are programmed by the vendor, it would require separate stock numbers for each loco number.

6: Bigger smoke reservoirs:  Where you going to put them?  I imagine things are pretty tight in there now.

9: DCC capability:   It's happening in the current Legacy-equipped American Flyer, so it's possible.

10: Scale wheels:  This has become quite a pail of snakes recently on the Flyer side, so good luck...

12: Smoking whistle from the whistle: As I recall, there have been issues with the stacks clogging on the Genset models, the added restriction of blowing smoke through the extremely narrow piping of a whistle would likely aggravate the issue.

Unfortunately, Lionel has stated that the same tooling used for the Legacy Big Boy will also be used for the VL. Of course the inner mechanics (3rd speaker, additional smoke units, etc,) are obviously changed. Though not quite as detailed as a brass model, I love the details of my Legacy Big Boy (lights underneath the boilers, added piping details when compared to the previous early 2000 model, etc.).  Rest assured you won't be disappointed in my opinion. Of course any additional details if possible are always welcome and wished for.
