I wish the two major train manufacturers were as good at responding to e-mails like the Martin Guitar Company. I e-mailed their customer service department to inquire about a guitar I was looking at on Craigslist. I inquired if the finish was original. I gave them the serial number and they researched it and got back to me within hours. Either they have very good records or are just good at customer service.

I sent an extensive e-mail to the company in Maryland two weeks ago with a simple question and have yet to receive a reply. If they had a toll free number I might give them a call.

It sounds like your experience with Martin was a good one. While I don't support people not following up on any request, email or otherwise, what difference does a toll free number make? Phone calls are the cheap part, good solid information is invaluable in my opinion, and extra effort to reach someone who has it is often worth the time and phone call. If you really need help I would pick up the phone and call.
