Has anyone used the Static grass system? Are the results permanent, or does the grass eventually "lay down"?

I wasn't that successful at getting all to stand up at first, but did not notice any degradation over time.
I've used a static grass system (not WS), and had good results. The trick I found was after you applied the static grass, wait a few minutes and then run a vacuum cleaner with low suction over it. The suction lifts the individual blades up and also removes any grass that isn't glued. Probably I waited a good 15-20 minutes, testing the glue to see if it is still tacky and pliable. I used a small hand held vacuum that I can quickly change bags to keep the grass away from regular dust and dirt.
I used it on a 4 x 8 layout three years ago. Everything it touched turned green. The stuff was everywhere. I sprayed it with a clear sealer which only slightly helped. In the end I just let the bare spots be part of the motif and lived with it.
I would never buy it again. Total mess.

Just buy static grass in bulk from scenic express. The static applicator is the key piece of the equation, the brand of fiber doesnt really matter. Just make sure its not a bunch of balled up clumps when you load it into the hopper. Once its down, as long as you dont lean on it or leave stuff sitting on it, it wont settle down as the ends of the pieces are glued upright into the glue bed. Once you bend it over its going to stay bent. If the longer stuff does start to settle, running the empty application back over the fibers, with the electric field on (and the table grounded) will perk the fibers back up.
I have mixed results. If I try to apply it directly to my layout, I can't get it to stand. It's a foam base. I put a nail in the foam and clip the wire of the applicator to the nail.
I harvested a really nice piece of shinny sheet metal from an old tower computer. If I apply the glue to it and then use the applicator, I can get the grass to stand. I do small sections in various shapes. Then I can peel up and apply to the layout where needed.

Good morning, I recently purchased the Woodland Scenics, Static Grass Applicator, Static Grass 3mm and 12mm, ( dark green and autumn ) , Static Grass Glue, along with the little Vacuum that Woodland Scenics also offers, basically went all out.
A group of individuals and my wife and myself put up several train layouts in different gauges in a local mall for the Holiday Season.
Our layout which is larger modern MTH and Lionel Layout we always do a winter scene which the public really seem to enjoy.
My wife and I do the scenery on this layout and since it's just temporary I thought I would practice with the Static Grass on this layout before I try the product on my home layout and since after the holidays the scenery on this layout will end up in the trash.
I have to say I had great success with all the Woodland Scenics products and I am far from a scenery expert !!!!
Yes there is no doubt the static grass seems to get everywhere and I had a few spots like Craftech mentioned above it did turn green and had to be cleaned off but the overall result is impressive once you stand back and look at it.
One thing I did notice the more grass you apply to the area you are working on the better the results, again this layout is temporary so I made it look good but not as good as I think it could be.
I noticed when I was putting the grass on with the applicator that it doesn't look like much but once you stand back and look at it it looks very real.
Some people was watching me applying the grass thru the store front window and they seem to be impressed !!!
I am going to try going back over the applied grass with the empty applicator, powered up and grounded as Boilmaker mentioned above and see what that does and will it stand some of the grass that is not standing up perfectly up. It might be too late since the glue has setup.
I will get some photos once where done and post them on the thread.
Kind of excited about trying it on my layout around my houses that have front and back yards.
I think that one false premise is that when you apply the static grass you will get something that looks like a wheat field or with shorter fibers a well manicured lawn.
I did an entire 3 foot by 20 foot rail yard with multiple sizes and colors and I achieved the look I intended.

I need to clarify this: What I used was
Woodland Scenics ReadyGrass Vinyl Mat
Not static grass. Sorry about that.

It all looks very good. It does seem to be kind of fickle though.
I have had great success with static grass. I’m in the process of “Layering”. Meaning; putting short or fine application, then adding lengthening or longer grass on top. I bought an inexpensive small battery operated vacuum and pick up any residual grass and recycle it! SO worth it! Take your time, there’s a little technique or finesse with it!
