I recently have been upgrading and completing my MOW equipment. I do have more to do.

They consist of two scratched/bashed wood tool and bunk cars built by Al Small, a GRa gondola I built from a Ted Schneph kit, and a Middle Division MOW X29.

I decided to use K brake systems on these cars, as they represent older equipment and I hadn't built a K system before.

First is the GRA gondola, then it's underbody. The K brake is built from Grandt Line K cylinder and Intermountain brake pieces.

Next is the Bunk car, and its underbody. Al's models are superbly put together, but mine lacked any brake detail. The same Grandt K cylinder, plus white metal brake pieces from my buddy Tom.

All rods & piping is steel wire.

I have the Tool car to add brakes to next.

(here are the photos. I had first saved this post as a draft, but it wound up 'live' anyway)

Nice work Chris.  I've also been developing a work train with 3 of Al's cars (Riding XLD, Kitchen XLK, Sleeping XLS), an MTH 125 ton crane, a Hallmark GRa, and a pair of Pac Limited X23 work cars.  My era is 1952 so my cars are in MOW gray.  The gray I painted the brass work cars is lighter than on Al Small's XL's.  Way down on my to do list is to letter the crane and paint its grabs yellow.  Perhaps some weathering would serve to blend the gray's closer together.  That freshly ballested main in the photo was my Christmas week project.  It also needs weathering.

In regard to what the PRR used to move work trains - the likely answer for the steam era was whatever light road power was handy.  In published photos I've seen H9/H10 2-8-0's and L1s 2-8-2's on work trains.
