With the newer version L tiu, I have removed all the bulbs and filters from my layouts. I was wondering if the filters were installed in or near the engines, would that help layouts with lower signal strength? I am installing LEDS in all my passenger cars and could easily add filters to the circuits.

I wonder if a traveling filter would help the signal to large consists or hinder communication?

I don't fully understand what is in the newer version L tiu that makes the signal so much better than the older ones. I am just frustrated with some consist problems that flare up when they feel like it.

I just got another used version L and it won't load engines. So I am using an older model on my outside loop. Sometimes it feels like I have to start all over again.

I know, and I am waiting for the premium app.

Joe, what is your signal issue with your Rev L?

Well, usually there's no issue with an L. So I bought a used one but I can't seem to add an engine to it? (with it) I got a new in box (older) GG1 in one gauge. The TIU would not load it. I used my old version (got from You!) and that one loaded the engine on the first try?

I need to troubleshoot the TIU and see what's going on. I put the old one back in with bulbs at the TIU and it works. I have not added bulbs back to the layout yet as it's outside. I thought it would be better to have both Version L's on each of the outside layout loops.

I take a step forward and three steps back.

Back to the Beginning Joe.... Does the read find the tiu? or tiu version if you don't want your engine to end up in the inactive list.

I think we have one version L but still left the bulbs in place.  They also act a blown fuse indicator.

I read the technical description for the filters in question. Several times in the discussion they discuss PN signals.

At the risk of looking ignorant, what is a PN code or a PN signal?

I'm "assuming" they're talking about this, PN Codes, but I haven't spend any time with the 'scope looking at the DCS signals.

Yikes! Looks like a lot of fuss!. But, if you can do it with a $2 chip...

Yes but then it said no active DCS engines. I tried to add the new one to it even on my workbench. I then took the engine outside and it added on my other TIU.

I may have something mixed up. I did reset the TIU. Then I remembered that would assign it to address #1. So I re-assigned it to #2 where it should be. I tried to then add the engine on my workbench but it would not add there.

I have some issues that have left me without patience. I try and make things better and instead they get worse. I keep saying, I'm "shooting myself in the foot". There maybe nothing wrong with this TIU but I should have bought new. When I get the time ( and the patience), I need to look at this TIU on it's own. Adding it to the layout when there's variables, is confusing the heck out of me.

Adding new engines to the mix that have issues right out of the box, is just aggravating the experience. The new GG1 rolled forward three or four inches and the smoke unit quit. The pantographs aren't working correctly either. Not to mention again that I couldn't add the engine to the layout! Urrggg.

With DC on the rails, and only 2 channels on each TIU available, I find that I need a TIU on each large loop of track.

Edit: I looked up this video Chuck to see how much she should smoke. I found two things. You were right that it only smokes for the blowdown sequence. I still would like to meet Taylor. I hope she's still doing artwork for this company.

Yeap, as I just had the tIU apart to fix a broken terminal post.

Talk about troubleshooting. I have DSL. I just cured a problem that would soak up all my modem's connection speed stuff. (I don't really know this). All of a sudden I can't get online again. To speed this up, my girl added a new app to her phone for Happy Birthday Greetings. For some reason that app was using our internet connection to the fullest?? I deleted it and got online above to type finally.

So,  I just went and showered. I came back upstairs and she's on facebook. Our internet was overworked again. I turned off her wifi so I could type this. I believe that I am truly a dinosaur now. I used to be the man to go to for electronics like sound systems. Now, I'm just struggling to survive.

The One-Gauge GG1 doesn't smoke continuously....only a short puff of smoke sporadically as it's simulating a steam heater boiler that's blowing off.

The owners manual gives precise instructions on the smoke unit operation and installing the pantographs.

Susan, I hasten to point out the DCS carrier is 3.27mhz, not 3.75mhz.  While I don't think this affects the filter design much, it may cause some to question the idea if it's based on incorrect information.

John, we appreciate the correction.  I updated the 2008 MTH DCS TIU Termination information on the website.  My engineer confirmed the value would not affect the filter design.
