Anyone know exactly how Amtrak detoured the northbound Crescent and Silver Star? Did they get run through the Virginia Ave tunnels to Landover, then a backing move to WUS for the engine change? Amtrak service alerts are not very informative. Earl G.

Where was it mentioned that any trains were detoured? The brief checks of local news stations suggested that service was suspended.

Look at Amtrak "service alerts and notices" from yesterday and you will see that it mentions trains 20 and 92 as running several hours late north of Washington due to "detours". I don't know what detours were taken, service alerts doesn't have that information, that is why I'm asking Earl G.
