Just put down my OGR to pick up the latest issue of Yankees Magazine. In a Q&A interview, relief pitcher Dellin Betances was asked about his favorite toy as a kid. Answer: his 'electric train.' That hit home for me. He grew up in an apartment in Washington Heights in northern Manhattan. I did the same in the nort Bronx. I wonder if he had his trains up more than my 2 weeks around Christmas. Betances and I had something else in common. He works at Yankee Stadium. Me? I went to high school a few blocks away.

The both of you have terrible taste in sports teams.

Lol, the mets....that's like American Flyer against Lionel in the 50's. The only Thing is American Flre and Lionel both stayed on the tracks. The mets always derail.
Nice to hear he liked toy trains.
Thanks for posting that, Chuck. I'm a Dellin Betances fan and it's good to hear his favorite toy was electric trains. We seem to have some things in common too. I am also a big Yankee fan who grew up in the north Bronx (Pelham Bay) and went to High School a few blocks from the stadium (Cardinal Hayes). I ended up in Long Island though.
Tom, I'm glad the Mets are doing well. I like to see the other NY team do well except against the Yankees. It's early in the season yet. I truly hope they don't blow it this time.
Great story, Chuck!

Nice story... but I despise the YANKERS.
I'm glad to hear that Betances is a train guy but, sheesh, if he doesn't fix his issues vis a vis finding the plate, he won't be a Yankee after this year...

Sorry, Tom. You're outnumbered!
Thanks for the post, Chuck.

THE YANKEES? Nobody roots for that team, do they?
Nice story Chuck.

I was a mets fan while Daniel Murphy was there. Don't really follow baseball anymore since Johnny Bench retired. The reds are a joke. Daniel's uncle put siding on my mom's house. I guess I'm a Marlins follower now. Woman I worked with years ago, her son is J. T. Riddle. I remember him as a little boy. He had a habit of answering the phone while he played in his Nana's office. Her mother-in-law, his grandmother, worked there too.
My daughter went to school and played softball & basketball with Bud Harrelson's daughter. Bud was a super guy. Very friendly. Attracted attention wherever he went. Always stopped to sign autographs and talk to fans. I heard he suffers from altimers now.
Nice to hear a baseball player was playing with trains at one time or another sure there were many.
But Not a Mets fan and hope to live to see the CUBS and METS meet in world series with off course the Cubs winning it.
Enjoy the baseball season in NY. Always plenty of drama. Heh.
Meanwhile, I expect my Nats to successfully defend their division crown.

Sorry Dieseler, can't happen. Cubs & Mets are both National League.

Well, at least not right now . It's not like teams have never switched. (Astros, Brewers, other teams earlier when they relocated).

I grew up in that same neighborhood (Washington Heights) as Dellin Betances and my Lionel Trains were my favorite as well. Played a lot of stickball on those streets. The sewer manhole covers lined up perfectly for the bases.

Highly unlikely the Cubs or the Mets will leave the National League, since both cities already have teams in the American League. (White Sox, Yankees)
Cool story, Chuck! I'm sure there are more than a few players who like trains.
