1/50"Yard Tractor model

A new tooling model in(more or less)O scale I was hoping for has just been made by Tonkin Models.A modern intermodal yard tractor is now available from 3000 Toys. The model looks like the one I drive at UPS.The model needs some customizing to make it more prototypical, but it will not be that much work to make it like the ones at work. The main adjustment will be shortening the wheelbase. The model is way too long compared to all the UPS yard tractors I have driven. It will be a fun project to make the model like a real UPS yard tractor.

It is a long powered magnet to pick up sharp metal objects on the ground. There is a release button in the tractor to turn the magnet power off to drop the loose metal in the designated area. The front magnet hits the ground on uneven surfaces,so lawnmower sized wheels have been added to each end of the magnet to protect it when it hits the ground. My photos are from before the magnet wheels mod.

You may want to hold off on the wheelbase shortening and consider powering it with an EZ-Streets chassis. Check out Lee Willis book and mods posted.
