Yes, O27 curves are real!

That is what a tele-photo lens does, i.e. it fore-shortens everything in the scene, and makes track curves appear much sharper than they really are.

Ronkonkoma, NY?  Is this a real place or just a stop on a sharp curve?  The LIRR must run some short cars to get around those curves.  NH Joe

Ronkonkoma is a division point on the Main Line of the LIRR.  Trains from Pennsylvania Station run on the double (and triple) tracked three-rail main line to this yard.  The line East to Greenport is mostly single tracked diesel territory.

The nearby lake is Lake Ronkonkoma.
