We listen to  SirrusXM satellite radio and during November and December they play holiday music.  After several songs, a brief Christmas program or movie excerpt interlude is played.  One excerpt had just a toy steam train whistle.  Yep I said to wife, that's a postwar Lionel steam engine tender air whistle.  Having only heard my MTH electronic whistles and horns she said "And you know this how?"

Where upon we went to the layout and placed my (first Christmas) Lionel 2055 steamer on the rails and proceeded to blow the whistle just like the radio segment.  She, with the musicians ear, agreed it sounded exactly like the excerpt.

Some memories become so ingrained, like riding a bicycle, you just never forget.

I never thought those old Lionel plates from the 90's even existed anymore!

I got those about 6-8 years ago, when doing some (Iron) Horse trading with my LTS, Charley just threw 3-4 of each of those into the trade, because they didn't show any copyright or trademark markings, and he was told that they were made for a private party, and NOT Lionel authorized. Charley wasn't sure of the legality of selling them, so he just gave them to me

rrman, I have had several conversations, over the CB radio because of those, definitely makes the miles more Enjoyable, and go by faster. I have Never gotten a negative or insulting comment, but then at 6' tall and well, in the neighborhood of 300#s, I guess that isn't too surprising.

Whoever told him that was wrong.  Lionel sold those in their "Sidetracks" catalog.

I bought some of them and some bumper stickers.

I don't know the true origin or story behind them, but in Charlie's case, it was better Safe than Sorry, they were an inexpensive item, that he received in trade, and he gave to a LOOONG time regular customer, no real financial loss, and would not have been a significant profit. From a business stand point, he undoubtedly made a wise choice.

I have looked them over, and I have not found any trademark logos which one pretty much expects to find these days, even back into the 90's. I don't know if these were actual Lionel products, but that was what he was told, and he handled them in what he felt was the BEST way, for HIS situation.
