Z1000 won't power TIU

In that case, I have to agree with you.

I am withholding agreement pending more study.  I ask the original poster:  Are you powering directly from brick or through the controller?  Reason I ask is that I have a Z500 outfit and found a misconnection in the controller.  Itcould not properly be phased until I switched some wires in the controller.

Do the Z1000 brick and controller have  accessory outlets?

The phasing shouldn't matter with no other transformer connected to the TIU i would think.

I am powering the track using 1Z 4000, red to red black to black,to the TIU.

The Z1000 has accessory terminals being used to power accessories like lighted buildings.

Wire switching black to red on the input from the transformer makes me a little nervous for fear something bad will happen to the wiring.if I try to switch, do I also change the fixed one output terminals on the T I U black to red?

Larvic, I would not make the change from red to black.  Your nervousness is correct.  I would turn off all outputs from Z4000.  Get a type M coaxial DC  power plug from Radio Shack; number may be 274-1573 or 274-1569.  Connect it up to the 14 volt accessory outlet on Z4000, amd plug into the TIU to see what happens.  If Z4000 breaker on the side doesn't pop, I' d replace the plug on the end of the Z1000.  If it doesn't pop, I'd open up the TIU.

RJ the output of the Z-400O is AC.  Swapping only effects the bell and whistle and phasing if other transformers are in use.  It is a simple way to check phasing.  It is the input not output.

He has nothing else attached to the TIU.  Meaning no transformers plugged into inputs.  He plugs the brick into the Aux power of the TIU and the Brick trips.  Since the brick works with his other controller the Brick is good and the TIU is bad.

Now the only other point you just revealed is you are using the accessory output of the brick to power some items.  If any of those items are faulty that can cause the breaker to trip too.

So remove the leads from the accessory post, and plug the brick into the aux port with no inputs or outputs to the TIU.  If the breaker trips there is an issue with the AUX input of the TIU.   G

I realize that.  I'm seeking to rule out possibilities, one of which is a problem in the plug at the end of the Z1000 lead.  I suggested using the accessory power on the Z4000 because that has a 4-amp breaker.  If it pops, with nothing else connected to the Z4000, there's a short somewhere in the TIU.  While theoretically a wall wart could be used, they don't have breakers and would not be a good test

--------- the items powered by the Z1000 cause no problems as they are mostly lights in buildings. They have not caused  a breaker to trip. 

So so I removed the leads from the accessory post, plugged in the brick solo and .... And ......... And....the breaker tripped.

Can we reliably point to the TIU as the problem, or is the TIU port not connecting correctly with the TIU plug?

YES We have victory.  A faulty TIU.  If that is victory.  You could open the TIU (6 screws) and see if something looks out of place or damaged.  G

Best bet now? Send it to GGG, if you don't have a place you trust/use for repairs.

   I agree with Marty R, just send the TIU to George (GGG) and let him fix it properly, one of mine will be going to him shortly for up dating also.  We are very lucky to have George and John (Gunrunnerjohn) here on the OGR to help us with these kinds of problems.
