I will answer that question for those new to this and don't think something like trees help. I am taking down the Christmas layout. Here it is after taking off just the trains and the trees. You can compare it now to what it looked like a couple of hours ago. Think trees matter!!??

Back in my S modular days, I applied a liberal amount of trees to my modules. (Sorry for the poor quality, images from 2001, shot with a floppy disk camera.)
Trees definitely make a difference. BTW, Rusty, like the module scenery work.
They also help clear the air of smoke fluid fumes.
there are parts of the country where trees are pretty scarce.
Even my simple Carpet layouts look better with trees.
Love the Trees! I started making the SuperSage lately. Makes it look like home.
Yes, cngw, trees make a huge difference. As killian said, if you live in the desert, you might not feel that way. But I live in the rural Northeast, and a layout without trees looks very bare and unfinished.

Keep going... Add a little color to the ground. Put some dirt around the base
of the trees.... Nice layout....
