One of my favorite consists is my MTH Amtrak Three Stripe Superliners from many years ago. Seeing them in the new catalog I was wondering....

1. Can I assume they are new road numbers and

2. Can I assume they will match the previous releases

I'd like to make my 14 car train a 20 car train with the new four pack and two pack add-ons. I have two Genesis heading up this train and they have more than enough power for additional cars.

Thanks for any input.

Typically MTH will list the road numbers in their product finder.  As to whether they will virtually match paint-scheme wise, would say possibly.

Best bet is to post those questions to MTH on their Facebook page.

I was told at York they'd be just like the catalog photo, which matches the first run of cars (without the black-painted window frames).

Good to know that a pair of powered Williams Genesis units will pull that many--I tried pulling nine cars with twelve autoracks, and the power+dummy wouldn't even budge them (although I think that was all the light bulbs pulling too much power, hence my LED upgrade project).

There were some questions asked about them on Facebook a few weeks ago, and they're going to get some upgrades, including new trucks and the new detailed diaphragms. So they will not be exact copies. One hopes that the paint is the same, but you can never count on shades of silver to be exact matches. Mixed together, you're probably not going to notice any minor paint shade difference, especially with 20 of them. With that many cars, you probably should also try and get 20 or 30 auto train racks too...

The Auto-Train is the longest, with 16 Superliners (I think I may have seen 17 on YouTube on occasion). The consist is supposedly limited by HEP capacity (you can only have one of the two locos providing it), so a 20-car Superliner train is longer than is possible on the prototype.

The number of autoracks varies, but is not dependent on head-end-power, and is always greater than the number of passenger cars (sometimes twice as many).

Hi Terry:

I would love to share a picture but I jsut moved into my new house last week and the trains are going to stay packed for a little while longer. Just to clarify, my Amtrak consist (going from memory) is two Genesis up front followed by 8 Superliners, Four auto Carriers, and Four Amtrak mail cars.

While an additional six cars will be overkill for my planned layout, I do hope one day to belong to another club where I can run really long trains.
