Either another tanker on a flat, a tank car, or a reefer
Well it ain't a reefer reefers don't have flammable warning on them the 3 is for flammable liquids like gasoline not necessarily gasoline but a flammable liquid.
How long to we have to wait?
BTW: DOT Placard 1993 FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS n.o.s., FUEL OIL. Class 3
Just a shot in the dark could they be a tank car and a gondola car........Paul

Mark : your killing me...... I can't wait !!!!
Tanker and ore dump car?
If it's a tanker car I hope it's scale and labeled for a fuel company, rather than a specific rail line!
I'm guessing....................
Gondola Car and Tank Car

If it is a tank car, my guess, I hope it is a black car labeled for one of the tank lines (GATX?), and certainly no railroad or specific oil company (that I would have to repaint).
Not the small Sunoco oil depot I was hoping for, but a nice tank car would be nice!! Ps. I hate waiting for anything! Okay, not everything!
It's a tanker and a hopper. Both are Sante Fe. Will they be done in other lines, perhaps Soo Line?
Is it a Caboose?
Mark, you sure know how to get the troops all fired up!!
We named our last child Caboose!!
great start just wrong rail road in fact wrong coast But I like, I like

These two new freight cars are two great additions to Menard's freight car roster.
You are right about that.As a kid mix freights I saw were very colorful. And I saw so many different boxcars from different railroads.I have to say they knew how to promote their name. With different colors writing styles it was eye catching.

Hey mark I like your boxcars and I am really of buying a few. This is not a shot at any company. But I just can do almost $100.00 per boxcar.I think you have found a nice slice in the o gauge train market. You guys are on the right track.I am looking forward to see what you gonna do this year.I have one question for you.Any plains about do a caboose or two?
These teasers and ongoing product announcements sure are fun and a great way to build enthusiasm for Menard's product line. I'm ordering both of these and looking forward to lots more in 2016.
Good Evening Mark the Menards Train Guy,
I wonder what the dimensions are of the coal hopper? Menards website has shipping dimensions but not the cars dimensions.

Swafford
We could not be more excited to introduce these brand-new train cars to our O gauge family! For the first time ever – Santa Fe Hopper and tank cars!
These O gauge train cars feature realistic details, including a chassis with premium metal trucks and operating couplers. Each is beautifully painted and contains detailed logos from the Santa Fe Railroad. Each train car is uniquely numbered, so no two cars are the same! SKU# 279-3048, 279-2683

Swafford,
Here are some dimensions that I gathered. I hope this helps!
10-3/4" L (hopper only), 12" L (coupler to coupler)
3-1/4" H (including coal) measured from rail
2-3/8" W

can't wait for mine to show up... Think I'll order an 8 pack of these for the layout too ..Bob
Hi Mark, are any of these going to be in stores or are they going to be special order through the site? I was in my localish Menards yesterday and all of the train stuff was gone. I was looking forward to throwing some boxcars in the 15% off bag and everything was gone.
One other question - is the coal load removable from the hoppers?
It bums me out that a mid-western company makes a release of this sort with a western railroad. I mean no offense to any road outside the mid-west, but Menards is a Wisconsin-based company and there are plenty of roads to choose from to honor Menards' roots. These cars are beautiful, without a doubt, and a great addition to what Menards already offers, but I would love to see Soo Line, Wisconsin Central, Milwaukee Road, Canadian National, Chicago & Northwestern, etc., etc. be the road for the initial release.
Basil: If I was a gambling man, I would dare say in the near future you may see them.
I agree, I think pretty soon you will see as many of the other roads as you can handle! I'm excited, I'm already planning some flat cars with the Santa Fe van as a load along with these new offerings!
When Menards announces a product, it's immediately available, no pre-orders, BTO, or waiting a year for delivery.
IMHO, that's a plus in today's marketplace.
Strike when the iron is hot
Now how come Mark from Menard's gets it right and its taken Lionel or MTH so long?
Offer up an 8 pack of grouped cars in the same road name to represent a fleet industry of cars!
Sell them in a bulk pack and make the price reasonable.... THERE IS NO WAY I HAVE THE TIME AND MONEY TO COLLECT A FLEET OF FREIGHT CARS AT 70 BUCKS A POP!
For a newcomer in the O gauge train business, Menards certainly offers an enviable business model to the other manufacturers! I suspect that over time we may see a change in affordability and availability! Then again, ego being what it is, maybe not! But we can hope! Hey Mark, is it too soon to start pushing for a Menards section in the Orange Hall at York this Spring?

Aldovar,
I can't predict with any certainty whether or not these will be in the store later this year. However, if they were, it probably wouldn't be until October. I'm sorry about the lack of train cars. Other Guests must have had the same bag sale idea!
Yep, the coal insert is removable. I hope that helps!
